  • What if the waste we throw away every day could become a source of energy? Video credit - The Better India Kanjirangal in Tamil Nadu is demonstrating how biodegradable waste can be put to productive use through a waste-to-energy model. The project converts organic waste into biogas and electricity, with the generated energy being used for applications such as streetlights and battery-powered vehicles. The process also produces nutrient-rich manure, creating another useful output from the same waste stream. What makes this interesting from a sustainability perspective is the circular approach: food and biodegradable waste are treated as a resource rather than simply being sent to landfills. The model connects waste management, renewable energy, electric mobility and organic manure in one system. Kanjirangal’s example highlights how local waste-processing solutions can potentially support cleaner energy use while creating value from materials that would otherwise be discarded. #WasteToEnergy #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #TamilNadu

  • What if part of the future fuel supply chain could come from the ocean rather than farmland? Indian climate-tech startup Sea6 Energy is working on converting seaweed into biocrude using hydrothermal liquefaction — a process that uses high temperature and pressure to turn wet seaweed biomass into an oil-like product that can potentially be refined into petrol, diesel and jet fuel. Unlike conventional biofuel crops, tropical seaweed can grow in the ocean without competing for arable land or freshwater, with harvest maturity in roughly 45 days. The interesting part is the attempt to scale this beyond the laboratory. Sea6 Energy has deployed a 1 sq km mechanized offshore farm in Indonesia, supported by its automated harvesting vessel, SeaCombine. The company has also partnered with Indian energy major HPCL to scale seaweed-to-biofuel conversion technologies. If marine biomass can ultimately produce biocrude at competitive costs, it could have implications for fuel supply chains, land use and energy security in fuel-importing economies. #ClimateTech #Biofuels #SustainableEnergy #OceanInnovation #CleanTech

  • Millions of tree seedlings begin their journey in plastic nursery bags, which can become waste once the plants are transplanted. This video highlights a remarkably simple alternative: using large plant leaves as a natural wrapping material for young seedlings. What makes the idea interesting is its simplicity. Instead of relying entirely on plastic or manufactured alternatives, it uses renewable organic material that is already available locally and can naturally return to the environment after use. It can also give agricultural by-products a second life, bringing circular thinking into the very early stages of reforestation and agriculture. The bigger takeaway is about scale. A small material substitution may seem insignificant for one seedling, but when applied across millions of plants, reducing unnecessary plastic use could become meaningful. It is a good reminder that sustainable innovation doesn't always require complex technology—sometimes it starts with looking more closely at materials that nature already provides. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Reforestation #PlasticReduction #Innovation
