  • Within one day, Meta, Google, and Anthropic pushed AI further into how you shop, use your phone, and work. On October 6, Meta and AI company Sierra announced a shared rulebook for AI helpers, called the Personal Agent Protocol. Early partners include retail heavyweight Walmart, payments firm Stripe, and store builder Shopify, and a first draft, known as Poppy. Today, AI shopping agents act like human buyers, making it hard for businesses to know who the agent is or who they are shopping for. This rulebook would let AI helpers sign in openly, with customers approving access and each business setting what they can do, while payment tools are planned for later. AI helpers are already at work, and at the launch event, Meta’s assistant Muse connected with home loan company Rocket’s own AI to get a customer pre-approved for a home loan, with their permission. That day, others pushed AI deeper into daily work: - OpenAI opened a new decision-making tool to all developers, AI can pick the right answer from set options in seconds. - Google released a phone-friendly AI model and an updated image model. - Anthropic began testing Claude inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Walmart and Shopify also co-developed Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol alongside Target, Etsy and Wayfair. OpenAI and Stripe created one AI shopping standard, while Visa and Cloudflare built another. Major e-commerce companies are backing both because they can work together. My takeaway as an AI advisor is that I believe no business should tie its AI plans to one vendor or one announcement, especially while these shopping rulebooks are still drafts. Until one plan wins, it pays to build systems that can change tools and partners easily. What’s one design choice that made it easy for your team to swap an AI tool?
