I’ve spent the last few years doing two things: ▪ Building businesses. ▪ Teaching people all the things I wish someone had taught me before I started building businesses. I started my first company at 19. Raised angel investment at 20. Ran it for two years. And then watched it fail. Which was not part of the original pitch deck. But it did happen. Since then, I’ve built more companies, worked with startups across industries, helped create millions of dollars in business pipelines, worked on fundraising and go-to-market strategies, and trained professionals in marketing, AI, and business through 1000+ training sessions. Today, most of my work sits at the intersection of: AI Marketing Startups Products Training & Educating people to make complicated things feel suspiciously simple. I teach executives, marketers, and founders how to actually use AI, across programs associated with institutions, including Kellogg, NUS, ISB, IIMs, MICA, SMU. I share what I’m learning about AI, marketing, storytelling, startups, and building things on the internet. Including the useful lessons. The expensive mistakes. And occasionally, ideas I should probably keep to myself.

That's a wrap on the first cohort of MICA's MarTech with AI course. Over the past few months, we covered everything from AI in storytelling to machine learning for marketers, Pricing in the AI era to building AI agents 101. Some of my favorite feedback: -> Great session....made a very technical subject easy to grasp. -> Deep has been amazing -> Great understanding of how Claude connects -> Quite a technical session. Appreciate the way you made it easier. -> Amazing exposure to help with strategic thinking. -> Made understanding Agentic AI easier. -> Excellent exposure to the storytelling experience. Now go make your colleagues wonder "Wait... how did you do that?" 😀
Someone said this at the end of my AI workshop, and it made me laugh: “It feels like fire was just reinvented.” Quite a sentence to hear after 2 days of AI 😂 My 1st thought: Okay, that might be the most enthusiastic feedback I’ve ever received! My 2nd thought: There’s actually something interesting in that analogy. A better interpretation. Fire gave people one capability, and they kept finding new uses for it. You could cook with it. Keep warm. Make tools. Work after dark. Eventually we used it to power machines. That pattern feels familiar with AI. In the session we used it for... sales research, finding signals, thinking through accounts, writing, prompting, & building workflows. Nobody handed early humans a "list of uses" for fire. They found them by keeping it lit & trying it on the next problem. Still a dramatic quote. But I get what he meant now :)
Every AI tool makes you competent. Do they make you good? No :( That gap, competent to good, has a name: It's TASTE. We don't teach it because it's uncomfortable to teach? There's no framework. No checklist. No 5-step. So we shrug and call it "an eye." For years... if you could reliably produce competent work, you had food on table. Taste was the cherry on top for the top 5%. AI just removed the bottleneck. Execution is now free and infinite. Which means the cherry became the whole cake. And, when everyone can generate infinite "competent options", the entire game becomes: which option, sharpened how, and what do we cut? That's a taste question. And that is the one thing the machine cannot hand you. My thoughts on where to start building the eye: → For one week or a month, or forever (if you can). Look at the brief and write down what "great" would look like... before you prompt anything. You're forcing your taste to lead instead of react to... whatever the machine hands you first. → Find your jealousy list. Sounds funky, but trust me. Five marketers / writers / thinkers whose work makes you slightly jealous. That sting of "damn, I wish I'd made that." Jealousy is your taste pointing straight at your ceiling. Study those five until you can feel how they think. → Diagnose how / why you scroll. Ten things a day in your feed, force a "because." "I stopped because ___." "I bounced because ___." Your reasons are the one thing you can't download from a model. → Keep folders: what AI handed you (floor) vs what you shipped after (ceiling). If the gap between them is small, you're not adding taste. The size of that gap is the size of your value. Competent is the new commodity. Taste... is the new moat. And a moat is just a 1000 small reps of judgment nobody saw you do. Start the first one today.
