About Menno Mitrovic

I studied Commercial Economics, specializing in Entrepreneurship, but most of my learning came from actually trying things. Starting ideas, failing, adjusting, and doing it again. Over the past 6+ years, I’ve been deep in marketing from different angles, building my own projects, working for a B2C company and now working for an agency helping DTC brands. What drives me is simple: helping others succeed in their life.

  • I heard the term Creative Strategist for the first time and I was like ‘’this is me. This is so me.’’ Whenever I read this quote back it puts a smile on my face. I’m super grateful to have received a spot to share my story within Motion (Creative Analytics) newest ‘'Becoming a Creative Strategist Guide''. I’d definitely recommend any aspiring Creative Strategist to give the guide a read. Not necessarily because I’m featured in it, but because it gives you a really good understanding of what the job actually looks like, what skills matter, and how to get better at it! And when you’re done reading the guide and think, “Yep, this is what I want to do” go do it. Put in the work. Make ads. Build a portfolio. Market yourself. Apply for roles. Get the reps in. Creative Strategy is growing fast. Last week I found out Google Trends searches for “Creative Strategist” have increased 180% over the last five years. I constantly see new opportunities popping up in my feed, compared to a few months ago when roles like these were much harder to find. Heck, yesterday I even saw Adobe’s Head of Social Media hiring for a YouTube Strategist. There’s never been a better time to start. Link to the guide: https://lnkd.in/e6xA4fHe

  • Yes, I doomscroll for a living (well... kind of…) Today marks exactly 3 months since I joined Vos Marketing as a Creative Strategist. In those three months, I've spent countless hours studying ads, researching competitors, analyzing organic content, reading comments, and looking for patterns. After seeing hundreds of ads go live, one pattern has really started to stand out to me. The best-performing ads rarely feel like ads. They don't start by talking about the brand. They don't immediately list features. Instead, they start with a problem, a story, or a moment that makes the viewer think: "That's me." Like my colleague Remco V. often says: "Nobody cares about your brand." At first, that sounded a bit harsh. But the more I work in creative strategy, the more I understand what he means. People don't open Instagram or TikTok hoping to learn about your company. They care about solving a problem, reaching a goal, or avoiding a frustration. Your brand only becomes relevant once you've shown that you understand their world. P.S. Thank you Motion (Creative Analytics) for the cap 🧢

  • I had 15 1-on-1 conversations with aspiring creative strategists over the last month. Three similar questions kept coming up every single time 👀 So if you're trying to break into creative strategy and feeling lost, this one's for you! 1. What does a Creative Strategist actually do? It varies by company, but here's what a typical day looks like: It's the first of the month. You and your media buyer sit down and look at the numbers. Hook rate, ad spend, whatever metrics your team tracks. You came prepared. What worked? What didn't? Where do we go from here? Then you get to work. Research. Concepts. Briefs to the editing team. Rounds of feedback. Final approval. And then you watch your ad either become a winner or a learning. That's pretty much it! 2. How do you transition into the role? Educate yourself and make great ads! You don't need to run them. Just make them. Even better, make ads for a brand and send them over for free. Who knows, they might want more! 3. How do you actually get hired? Market yourself! And do it visually! Build a visual heavy portfolio. The person reviewing your application wants to see the creatives you've made. Within seconds they'll already sense whether you know what you're doing. Then go deep on one ad. Walk them through the whole thing: the concept, the copy choices, the visual direction, why you thought it would work and if you have data, why it did. That's what separates candidates who get it from those who don't. Once the portfolio is done: clean up your LinkedIn. Profile photo, banner, headline, all of it matters. Keep it simple. If you want to be a Creative Strategist, make that obvious. Turn on Open to Work and start posting. Break down ads. Share what you're noticing. Be consistent. The role will follow!
