I work at the intersection of business, tech, growth, and Islam. Most of my time goes into figuring out the intersection from first principles and I share it in my writings on substack and Linkedin. Professionally, I've co-founded and consulted several startups (largely bootstrapped). My expertise is in bridging the chasm between an idea and its market, and all that it entails -- positioning, scalable GTM channels, product itself. I'm open to consulting contracts occasionally should you need help with any of the above. DM me if that's the case, or check out the links below. Side passion: Open source AI. For every 100 businesses that try cold email, only 1-2 really crack it. For every 100 that try Linkedin DMs, only around 10 crack it. For every 100 that try paid ads, around 20-30 crack it. For every 100 that try SEO, around 50-60 crack it. For every 100 that try brand marketing & PR, around 70-80 crack it. The higher up the outbound-inbound spectrum you go, the higher the investment required and also the chances of success. Something about cracking inbound leads to a discipline of thought and positioning that outbound never does. And I say this as someone who has sold an outbound solution.
Hot take: Real Engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, industrial, RF, etc) is going to make a huge comeback. 5 years ago, a lot of electrical/mechanical engineers had to do software engineering bootcamps to switch careers. I'm calling it now that in a couple of years, a lot of software engineers will have to do bootcamps for real engineering work. The big reason: AI. The bigger reason: Real engineering dealt with the world of atoms and was always unwieldy. It required for more advanced knowledge and real materials. But thanks to the latest advances, the software side of it has been commoditized to nothing. And in a few years, everyone will realize how much cheaper China has made "atoms". You won't believe that you can buy a robot arm that can do real work for ... $500 or less on some Chinese website (not gonna name my sources just yet). Historically, to do real world engineering you had to have a giant corporation which was well-capitalized to do big projects or have enough economies of scale with smaller materials that it made sense. But now, given that the materials and software are both cheap, there is real space for cracked engineers working from their homes to innovate on the very real things we use (imagine a self-cleaning Muslim shower pls God). The big edtech opportunity right now is to design these bootcamps specifically for software engineers. 6 or 12 months to switch to real engineering. Let's see who takes it up.
I'm relaunching PipelineScientists as a marketing firm. Last year, I started PipelineScientists with Hamza Maqsood as a GTM Engineering company initially. We quickly realized that GTM engineering is largely a fad unless you've figured out your core business, which in our region majority haven't. We then pivoted to building ColdSend.pro which is still active, but soon enough we're heading into a future where email is going to look very different and it's going to impact cold email drastically. I don't know how but I'd like to have a front seat on how that evolves. The bigger problem, however, is that over the last year. I've been approached by 50+ businesses seeking consultation on: 1. How to pivot after AI wrecked their business model 2. Which marketing channels they should even invest in 3. How to build a marketing team 4. Have a working business all built on referrals but nothing scales And so on. In fact, no.4 is where majority were, especially in the MENA region. You'd be surprised to find the number of quality, revenue generating businesses, that are working almost entirely on referrals! I've been helping many haphazardly and have taken up some paid engagements here and there. But I believe it's now time for me to roll up my sleeves and get hands on. I like to stay on the edge of things and God has blessed me with an ability to synthesize working hypotheses. I'm going to put that to use now. If you or someone in your network is grappling with these questions, book a call with me. I'm very generous with my time until you need recurring help.
