About Nupur Munda

Hi, I’m Nupur. I build systems, solve problems, and genuinely enjoy making technology work better for people. Over the last 5+ years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with companies like Microsoft and Amazon, where I’ve built scalable backend systems, improved reliability, and worked on products used by millions. I enjoy the kind of engineering that happens behind the scenes the systems people may never see, but depend on every single day. The best solutions, in my opinion, are the ones that feel simple to users but take thoughtful design and strong execution underneath. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐃𝐨 I work in backend engineering, distributed systems, and scalable architecture. Some days that means solving production issues, some days it means redesigning workflows, and other days it means building systems that can handle growth without breaking. I like taking complex problems, understanding what really matters, and turning them into practical solutions that create measurable impact. 𝐌𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 From graduating from National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand to working at Amazon and now Microsoft, my career has been built on learning, adapting, and staying curious. Every role has taught me something valuable about technology, ownership, teamwork, and what it takes to build products people can trust. Growth in tech is never linear, and that’s what makes the journey interesting. 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 I’m also passionate about helping others grow in their careers. I enjoy guiding people with resume reviews, resume rewriting, interview preparation, and sharing honest insights about breaking into top tech companies. Sometimes people just need strategy. Sometimes they need confidence. Sometimes they need someone to tell them they’re closer than they think. I’m happy to be part of that journey. Thanks for being here. If you’re into tech, growth, career conversations, or building something meaningful, let’s connect.

  • At Microsoft, my manager and my mentor both started with "Your code is good." Then came the "but." Third week, my manager: "Your code is good. But you're too slow." The problem wasn't intelligence. I was spending hours rewriting emails, debugging alone, overthinking docs, and getting stuck before asking questions. Three months in, my mentor, in a 1:1: "Your code is good. But you're not communicating enough." I nodded, said thank you, and cried in the bathroom. Then I started sending weekly updates before anyone asked and flagging blockers within 24 hours. Six months later: Exceeds Expectations. Same code. Six months into Microsoft, after 4 days stuck on a bug, my senior: "Mediocre engineers give up on day 2. You're still here." At Amazon, my first month, a senior: "Nupur, being busy is not the same as being impactful." Four sentences. None of them was about how well I code. Two of them started by saying my code was good. The "but" was never about the code.

  • At Amazon, I got paged for a service I'd never touched. Reading its code was the slowest thing I could have done. On-call means you're responsible for every service your team owns, not just the ones you wrote. This one, I'd never opened. So I stopped trying to understand the service and started trying to isolate it. Dashboards first. The error rate had spiked suddenly, not gradually. That usually means something changed, not something wore out. Recent deployments next. Nothing had shipped on our side in 24 hours. The service hadn't changed. Its behavior had. The logs showed the requests coming in looked normal. The failures were happening downstream of us. That flipped the investigation. I mapped the dependency graph. A few hops out, one service had pushed a deploy earlier that same hour. Its latency had crept up. Ours inherited it, timed out, and threw errors that looked like they belonged to us. We escalated with the exact hop, the exact timestamp, and the exact metric. Fixed in minutes once the right team had it. Reading code tells you what a system does. It doesn't tell you what changed.
