About Rizwan Zafar

I run product at Simpaisa, an acquiring and cross-border payments company: around 270M transactions worth $1B+ a year for 150+ merchants in six markets. Next: a Director or Head of Product role in Gulf payments, owning acquiring or alternative rails in depth. What I own today: - Card acquiring on Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS) for 30+ merchants, with network tokens on 60%+ of card transactions, 3DS2, card-on-file rules and chargebacks held under 1%. - Alternative rails behind one API: local bank transfers, mobile wallets, switches and carrier billing, so global merchants integrate once and collect in every market. - A decline-code, routing and failover change that lifted payment success across all rails by 18% (relative) within three months, with fraud below 0.1% of volume. - PCI DSS Level 1 and ISO 27001 audits completed without findings, and standard-risk merchant onboarding cut from weeks to hours. Programs: four regulated market launches over two years (Bangladesh, Nepal, Iraq, Egypt), Saudi Arabia entry now in progress, and two mergers into Simpaisa Holding worked from due diligence through share transfer. I built the product and program organization from 0 to 20 and manage 20+ bank, operator and partner relationships. AI in payment operations: my team built and runs four GenAI assistants in production. The merchant integration assistant cut integration time from about three weeks to under one, and partner support satisfaction rose from 3 to 7 out of 10. Our agentic commerce use case is with the State Bank of Pakistan for approval. Before Simpaisa: payment operations across five markets at Daraz (Alibaba Group), and Head of Product & Projects at Tapmad, where moving billing from carrier to wallet rails cut payment costs from about 50% of revenue to about 1% on the way to 5M subscribers. PMP, PMI-ACP, CSPO and CSM, all active. I write about payment operations at rzifi.com. Open to Director and Head of Product conversations in Gulf payments. Message me here, on WhatsApp (wa.me/971589683970) or on Telegram (t.me/rizwanzaffar), or book a call at rzifi.com.

  • A proposal multiplies subscription price by a customer target and shows a healthy return. But does that target mean accounts at year-end or the average number paying during the year? Put each uncertain input on a consistent basis before using the result. Change plausible assumptions and find which one could reverse the decision. Where a proportionate test can reduce that uncertainty, fund the learning stage explicitly. A spreadsheet result still needs demand evidence and the proper approval. • A card saved to make the next checkout quicker is later used by another team for subscription collection. A reusable credential cannot explain what the customer agreed to. Check the relationship, intended use and effective agreement before a new submission. Keep a shopper-selected payment distinct from an agreed merchant-initiated collection. If an operation was already submitted, investigate its original outcome even when permission has since changed. Removing a shortcut and cancelling an agreement may have different effects. The article follows the complete case: https://lnkd.in/ePkggBcd #Payments #StoredCredentials #Subscriptions #CustomerConsent #PaymentOperations #Checkout #Stripe #Adyen #EMVCo #CardPayments

  • Sales wants reporting, support wants easier setup and a customer wants another integration. Giving every request a date still leaves the team's main product choice unexplained. Choose the customer problem worth concentrating on and the alternative that will wait. Make the commitment proportionate to the evidence. If the mechanism is uncertain, test a smaller bet, then decide whether to extend, revise or stop it. Preserve the cases that contradict the preferred explanation.
