About Tom Smykowski

I turn customer problems into products that grow businesses | Former founder who built a SaaS product used by 32,000+ businesses | Staff Product Engineer | Applied AI Engineer · Ex-Printify · TypeScript

I'm a Staff Software Engineer and Founding Engineer with over a decade of experience building SaaS products, design systems, and scalable web applications. I write practical posts about software engineering, startups, AI, product development, UX, system design, Angular, React, TypeScript, and lessons learned from working with founders and engineering teams. My content focuses on real-world experience, technical depth, and actionable insights rather than theory. If you're looking for thoughtful, high-quality posts that resonate with developers, engineering leaders, and startup founders, you're in the right place.

  • If you need more Angular blocks like Bento Grid, and also a design system ready to use in Figma, Base UI is a nice component library to check out https://lnkd.in/gZJEGf2r

  • I’ve been writing about building, software engineering, product, UX, AI, and the tech industry for years. That work grew into hundreds of articles and a community of almost 20,000 followers on Medium. I’m incredibly proud of what I built there. Now I’m taking the next step. I’ve moved my writing to my own blog, where I can build on all those years of work and turn it into an even more valuable knowledge base for people building software and products. Today, the blog already has 800+ articles. It’s for software engineers solving problems around Angular, JavaScript, frontend architecture, system design, performance, accessibility, AI-assisted development, code quality, and engineering practices. It’s for tech leads and engineering managers making decisions about architecture, teams, processes, developer productivity, and technical direction. And it’s for founders and CTOs who need to understand technology, AI, UX, product development, engineering trade-offs, hiring, and where our industry is heading. My goal has always been to write things that are useful beyond the few minutes it takes to read them. Something you can find six months later when you have a problem. Something that saves you hours of research. Something that gives you an idea you can bring to your product or team. Something that challenges the way you currently approach a problem. And something based on years of actually building products, leading engineering work, researching, experimenting, and sharing what I learn. Now I want to invest even more into it. I’ve introduced paid subscriptions to support deeper research, more technical content, experiments, guides, and practical knowledge. Subscriptions start at $19/month, with plans for individual readers and teams. If you’re one of the almost 20,000 people who followed my writing on Medium, have read my work here on LinkedIn, or discovered one of my articles through Google over the years, I’d love to have you join me there. 800+ articles. Years of writing. And a lot more coming. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dedCtWUn

  • It's a great case study, what Wise did is like playing 3D chess in design
