🏔️ Conquering Elephant Hill – Lessons From a Hike That Tested Everything This past weekend, my colleagues and I took on Elephant Hill in the Aberdare Ranges — a trail known for its beauty, unpredictability, and brutal honesty. What seemed like a simple hike quickly became a masterclass in resilience. 🌧️ The Challenges (More Than Just a Hike): The Bamboo Forest: This section greeted us with a steep, slippery climb coated in mud. Every step required focus; one wrong move and you’d slide back. The dense bamboo filtered the light, creating a quiet but intense atmosphere — like nature testing your intention before letting you proceed. The Thick, Dark Forest: Past the bamboo, the trail plunged into a darker, colder stretch. The forest floor was uneven, roots twisted like traps, and the silence was heavy. This part demanded not just stamina, but mental composure. Each step felt like pushing through resistance — the kind you can’t see but can feel deeply. The Moorland and Rocky Terrain: As altitude increased, the terrain shifted again. The open moorland was windy and exposed, making each step feel heavier. The rocks were sharp, the air thinner, and the gradient relentless. Here, the challenge was endurance. Your legs burn, your breathing changes, and your mind has to stay committed. False Summits: Just when you think you’re close, another rise appears. This was the real mental battle — staying motivated when the finish line keeps moving. 💡 The Lessons: “The top of one mountain is the beginning of the next.” Each terrain, each challenge, felt like a new mountain within the mountain. Adaptability is strength. What worked in the bamboo forest didn’t work on the rocks. Switching pace, strategy, and mindset was key. Teamwork matters. Helping each other across tough patches made all the difference. Growth requires discomfort. The hardest stretches taught the biggest lessons — about grit, awareness, and mindset. Reaching the summit wasn’t just a victory; it was a reminder that every journey worth taking will test your determination long before it rewards your effort. Here’s to more climbs — on trails, in life, and in our careers. Every summit prepares you for the next one.
I once asked two delivery leads a question. 'Should I apply for this certain role or leave it because I'm not experienced enough.' 1st one told me, well since you don't have most of the qualifications it would not be advisable to apply. 2nd one told me, go for it. I believe you have what it takes to do well in this spot and any team would be happy to have you since you check most of the boxes. I was very inspired. Applied for the spot, though I didn't get it. But for the first time I was positive about the rejection email. Someone believed and opened a whole level of confidence in me and gave me the 'I can do it' confidence. To date I always believe in myself and I've seen this open lot's of opportunities. This shows how our interactions with people can either build and boost their confidence or destroy them. I'm grateful to all the Manager's, TL's and DA's who believed in me and gave me a chance💯🔥
