About Axel Tessmann

Founder @SOPAGO | We are Driving Africa’s Hospitality Revolution | Digital Transformation Interim (CIO, CDO, CTO, PO) | Accelerating Tech-Driven Business Change

As the Founder of SOPAGO, I’m reimagining how hotels, resorts and lodges engage their guests. SOPAGO is more than software — it’s a hospitality innovation partner designed to increase satisfaction, build loyalty and streamline operational processes across the entire Guest Experience Journey. Alongside building SOPAGO, I work as an Interim IT Executive (CIO, CDO, CTO, Product Owner), driving IT projects and programs that deliver measurable business outcomes. From Business Application rollouts (ERP, PIM, DAM, GSP, CMS, PDM) to digital transformation, I thrive in complex environments where technology meets strategy. Whether it’s through entrepreneurship or interim mandates, my focus is on growth — supporting businesses to scale, transform and thrive in a digital-first world.

  • East African hotels: stop buying “tech” that is already obsolete. Every week on LinkedIn, I see another hospitality “tech provider” celebrating their next won customer. New logo. Smiling handshake. Big announcement. And every time, I am curious: What did the hotel actually buy? So I look deeper. Too often, the answer is disappointing: ❌ A website built from a generic website-builder template ❌ No meaningful support after launch ❌ No modern data architecture ❌ No AI expertise ❌ No strategy for reputation intelligence ❌ No vision for AI-driven revenue management In other words: a solution stuck in 2020, sold in 2026 as “innovation.” And you really think, you can boost direct bookings to win against OTA’s ❓ Seriously ❓ Meanwhile, the way guests discover hotels is changing rapidly. They are not only typing keywords into Google anymore. They check OTAs. Or they are asking ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and other AI platforms: “Which hotel in Nairobi is best for a business trip?” “Where should I stay in Zanzibar with great service and reliable reviews?” “What is the best safari lodge for families?” “Which hotel in Kigali offers good value and airport transfer?” The future question is not simply whether your hotel has a website. The question is: Can AI understand your hotel, trust your information, assess your reputation, and recommend you? And while this changes, many hotel decision-makers still choose a provider because the sales presentation was polished, the price was low, or the salesperson said, “Yes, we do AI.” Wake up ‼️ ‼️ ‼️ A website template is not a technology strategy. ‼️ A booking engine is not a digital transformation strategy. ‼️ And a salesperson talking about AI does not make a company an AI company. AI will fundamentally change hotel discovery, online reputation management and revenue management. Hotels that choose real technology partners with genuine IT expertise, hospitality understanding and modern infrastructure will be ahead. The others will discover too late that their competitor made the wiser decision. Do not buy “hotel tech” because it looks modern in a sales deck. Ask what is behind it. Ask what has evolved. Ask how it prepares your property for AI-driven discovery. Because the next guest may not find the best hotel. They may find the hotel whose technology was built for the future. But it is definitely not yours ‼️

  • Unique Opportunity in the Construction Tech Market Sometimes, challenging situations create the most interesting opportunities. Over the past two years, together with experienced industry experts, we have developed, successfully launched, and operated a comprehensive SaaS platform designed specifically for general contractors and construction companies. This platform was built to solve some of the construction industry’s biggest pain points: • Inefficient partner and subcontractor management • Time-consuming contract and certificate processes • Media breaks and lack of system integration • High administrative overhead • Lack of transparency and compliance Today, a unique situation has arisen: The original client has entered insolvency. However, the full IP and usage rights to the platform remain entirely with us. As our core business is custom software development, and we currently do not have the capacity to scale and manage another independent SaaS business, we are looking for a buyer or strategic partner for this technology. Key Features & Assets: ✅ Production-proven SaaS platform for the construction industry ✅ Multi-tenant architecture and scalable cloud infrastructure ✅ Digital contract management including digital signatures ✅ Fully integrated certificate and compliance management ✅ Workflow engine for customized processes ✅ Mobile construction app for onsite operations ✅ AI-powered invoice and calculation features ✅ API-based integration architecture ✅ Digital acceptance, defect, and documentation processes ✅ Validated by pilot customers and real-world projects To date, the platform has processed: • 3,500+ Partner companies • 6,800+ Projects • 275,000+ Documents • 27,000+ Digital signatures • 22,000+ Contracts • 11,500+ Calculations Proven Results: • 82% reduction in contract closure phases • 68% reduction in administrative effort for certificate management • Significantly higher transparency and compliance Who is this for? • Construction Tech companies • ERP and industry-specific software providers • Investors and Venture Builders • PropTech companies • Strategic buyers in the construction or software space • Companies looking to expand their portfolio with an established platform Possible Models: • Full sale of the technology and IP • Asset Deal • Licensing model • Strategic partnership or Joint Venture This platform represents years of development effort and offers the chance to skip the R&D cycle and launch immediately with a production-ready solution. If you are interested or know someone for whom this opportunity might be relevant, I look forward to hearing from you via direct message. #ConstructionTech #ConTech #PropTech #SaaS #Software #DigitalTransformation #ConstructionIndustry #B2BSoftware #MergersAndAcquisitions #TechAcquisition #DigitalConstruction #Innovation #Startup #Scaleup #EnterpriseSoftware

  • AI won't save hospitality in East Africa. Not if the basics are still missing. Twenty years ago, many hotel owners ignored online bookings. "We don't need a website." "Our guests just call us." "Tour operators bring us enough business." Today, I visit hotels and lodges across East Africa and see the same story. ❌ No real-time availability. ❌ Reservations managed in WhatsApp chats. ❌ Guest information scattered across notebooks, emails, and spreadsheets. ❌ Different rates in different places. ❌ No clear record of who stayed, who cancelled, or who is likely to return. But now everyone wants AI. I hear it every week. ❔ "Can SOPAGO help us with AI?" ❔ "Can AI increase our bookings?" ❔ "Can AI automate guest communication?" And when I ask: ❓ "Where is your guest data stored?" ❓ "How do you track reservations?" ❓ "Can you see your occupancy, revenue, and guest history in one place?" The room often goes quiet. ❗ AI needs data. ❗ AI needs processes. ❗ AI needs structure. Without that, AI simply makes the confusion happen faster. The real challenge isn't technology. It's believing that you can skip the foundation. The hospitality businesses that will win in the next decade are not necessarily the ones with the most AI. They are the ones that know their guests, understand their operations, and have their data in order. 1️⃣ First digitalize. 2️⃣ Then centralize. 3️⃣ Then automate. 4️⃣ Then apply AI. In that order. Twenty years ago, the excuse was: "Our guests don't book online." Today, it's: "AI is might just be a hype." Both are wrong. Both are comfortable. The hospitality industry in East Africa has an incredible opportunity ahead. But AI is not the starting point. It's the multiplier that comes after the groundwork is done.
