Money 20/20 Las Vegas is upon us. I’m already seeing people fly out on a Saturday, which feels wildly ambitious. Spending five full days in Vegas for a fintech conference is a genuine test of human endurance. Five days of casino air and networking might actually kill you. I’m sitting this one out and trading the Venetian show floor for a trip to Spain, France, and Gibraltar. I’ll just be living vicariously through your posts about the worlds most famous Starbucks. To be honest, while the main stage is packed with sleek slides about programmable money and agentic this and that, we all know what the actual floor conversations look like: Traditional bankers sitting in on core modernization panels, secretly praying that Bob, the 74-year-old contractor in Florida who is the only guy alive holding their 1970s COBOL code together, doesn't decide to retire this week. Over caffeinated Fintech founders pitching sub-second cross-border settlement, completely ignoring the compliance team in the back having a quiet panic attack. The embedded finance crowd hyping up autonomous AI agents, right up until someone's bot accidentally trades coffee futures on Uniswap instead of ordering an oat milk latte. And certainly BaaS providers busy trying to convince their Series C investors that a fresh regulatory consent order is actually just "strong market validation." To everyone braving the 1:30 AM dealmaking sessions over $26 tequila sodas; just stay hydrated. If you're heading there, what's wildest buzzword you expect will be heard? My money is on "Autonomous Liquidity Hallucinations." PS thanks for all the AI image creativity some of you are showing with regards to the Starbucks. To those that have never been there ... Prepare for this ... #Money2020 #Fintech #Banking #AI #Payments
Money20/20: Where the future of banking is always another 12 months away. Hey attending bankers and credit unioners …. you’ll experience a crowd of thousands of attendees, endless keynotes, demos of brilliant tech. Trust me, this will be enough networking to keep LinkedIn busy until Christmas 2027. A zillion pitches will be coming at you from every angle. As a banker, your actual job as attendee is way beyond just listening and watching. It's deciphering hype from genuine opportunity. You aren't there to follow the leader or buy BS. You're there to cut through the noise, spot actual ways to reduce friction, drive down operational costs, and fix the user experience for your customers or members. ... Unless you just went to Vegas to party. (No judgment.) Then everyone flies home. Your recap goes into a shared drive. The vendors you got to know (or partied with) end up in CRM purgatory. All those "game-changing solutions" get quietly rescheduled for Q4 next year. Don’t get me wrong; events like Money20/20 are great and needed! The energy is real, and the right conversations are invaluable. But after decades in this industry as a banker and then “vendor”, the pattern is clear to me: We’re world-class at discussing transformation. We’re remarkably average at executing it. AI, agentic banking, embedded finance, tokenization - you’re going to hear it all in the halls of the Venetian. The place is packed with possibilities and amazing people and companies that passionately want to make a difference. But … Back at HQ? The same core systems, budget fights, and organizational inertia are right where we left them. Maybe the best Money 2020 panel for next year shouldn't be about what's coming next. It should be titled: “It’s Been 90 Days. What Did You Actually Ship?” No slides or buzzwords. Just proof. Enjoy the event. But separate the real signals from the conference noise so when you get back in the office, you can truly drive some change. #Money2020 #Tokenization #Stablecoin #Fintech #AI
It’s been well over a year since I ditched my Apple Watch. During that time I’ve had a blast building a collection of #timepieces. I’m particularly happy with this Grand Seiko Corporation of America GMT. The fit and finish are brilliant. It was one of the first watches I purchased after my #smartwatch divorce. There’s too much #digital in the world, so I needed a bit of a change and glad I made the jump. How about you? #watches

I don’t want a foldable phone. I went through that phase in 1992.
This sucks. We need more competition, not less. https://t.co/hFOb4bJLUs
“The United States has “received intelligence that Iran substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel,” according to a memo sent Friday by Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence.”
It’s not that simple. https://t.co/R5IZYvXqhi
