I've been exploring companies backed by Y Combinator, and one thing keeps surprising me. Some of today's well-known startups started with a very simple idea. Airbnb started with renting out air mattresses. Stripe focused on making online payments easier for developers. Dropbox made file syncing simple. These companies didn't begin by trying to solve every problem in the world. They focused on one problem and worked relentlessly to solve it. As someone building products at SunSerene Technologies and working on PlacementGrid, this is a reminder I keep coming back to: You don't need a complicated idea to build something valuable. You need a real problem, a clear solution, and people who actually want it. AI has made building software faster than ever. But building the product is only one part of the journey. Finding customers, understanding their problems, and earning their trust are equally important. That's what I'm trying to learn while building. What is one Y Combinator company whose journey inspires you the most? #YCombinator #Startups #BuildInPublic #Entrepreneurship
I am now okay with reading AI slops, acceptance is a thing btw🦥
So I was building this School ERP system, and I had to choose a database. The two obvious choices were SQL or NoSQL. At first, I was considering NoSQL because of the flexibility it offers. But then I started looking at the actual structure of a school ERP. Students are connected to classes. Classes are connected to sections. Students have parents, attendance, fees, exams, results, and more. Basically, a lot of data is connected to other data. And that made me realize that a relational database might be a better fit for what I’m building. So I’m going with PostgreSQL over MongoDB. Not because SQL is always better than NoSQL. But because the database should fit the problem you’re solving. Now the next challenge is making sure I structure it properly so the ERP can scale as I keep adding more modules. Still building. Still learning. Building in public. Devansh Garg
