About Dominic Joyce

Transformation & Talent Acquisition Leader | SAP & AI Programme Hiring | Founder, Maverick Otter | LinkedIn Top Voice (Job Search & Careers) | HR Grapevine Advisory Board | Speaker on AI, Hiring, People & Career Strategy

I build Talent Acquisition functions that can actually withstand growth, transformation, and AI. As a Fractional Talent Leader, I partner with organisations going through change — SAP S/4HANA programmes, AI capability builds, multi-country expansion — and turn hiring chaos into structured, scalable systems. That means: – Forensic capability audits – Workforce planning tied to commercial reality – Modernised reporting (goodbye spreadsheet archaeology) – TA teams that operate like advisors, not order-takers At Bauer Media Group and across my consultancy work, I focus on one principle: Automate what can be automated. Protect what must stay human. Through Maverick Otter, I also help individuals sharpen their positioning — CVs, LinkedIn profiles, career strategy — because in a world where AI can screen you in seconds, clarity beats credentials. I’m currently writing Parallel Pursuits: Love and Labour — exploring how careers mirror relationships, from the loyalty trap to the sunk cost spiral. Turns out people don’t just stay in bad jobs for money. If you follow my content, you’ll see themes around: • AI reshaping recruitment • Skills over tenure • Hiring for growth mindset, not recycled experience • Career freedom over corporate loyalty I believe recruitment should be structured, commercially intelligent, and unapologetically human.

  • Can I Change My Job Title On My CV? Yes… and No! Sorry, that doesn’t help does it. Like my left knee which identifies as an 87 year old with arthritis whose bones are made of wet cardboard, let me break it down for you. At Klarna, my job title was… ‘Senior Business Operations Specialist’ Which makes total sense on the internal structure, BUT… means absolutely nothing to people outside of the organisation. So I changed my job title on my LinkedIn and CV to ‘Global Talent Acquisition Manager’ because that’s what I did. I managed a global team of Recruiters to hire roles at Klarna. I just made sure I told employers when collecting references that the Senior Biz Ops job title might come back in the reference check. Why did I change it, simply because if they saw the Senior Biz Ops job title on my CV they’d think I’d changed careers or wonder what the hell I’m doing applying to recruitment roles. You see the method to the madness? I’ve not given myself a promotion but simply made my job title relatable and specific to what it is I do. This helps Recruiters align my experience to the vacancy they’re hiring for. I spoke to someone yesterday who wasn’t getting any interviews. Her job title on her CV - Business Control. Do you know how many jobs on LinkedIn have that title.. NONE! What she really did as a job was as a Financial Analyst, do you how many of those jobs are listed… THOUSANDS! Recruiters won’t interview or shortlist you if you don’t pass the 6-10 CV skim where we do a lot of matchmaking of key words, skills and job titles to the role requirements. Have you changed your job title before to make yourself more desirable or relatable to the job market or in your job search? (Bought a new running headband from Decathlon at the weekend. Thoughts) Hybrid athlete these days 😅

  • “I’m PERFECT for this job.” Cool. Does your CV/Resume know that? Because believing you’re perfect for a job and articulating WHY you’re perfect for it on your CV are two VERY different things. You might have: → Done the exact role before. → Worked in the same industry. → Managed similar teams. → Delivered exactly what they need. → Got every skill they’re asking for. But if I have to play Sherlock Holmes to figure that out from your CV… 🔎 You’ve got a problem. Recruiters and Hiring Managers can only assess what you give them. “Supported transformation” could mean you led a £10m global programme across 12 countries. OR Provided reports, data and dashboards for project transformation meetings. “Responsible for recruitment” could mean you built a TA function and hired 200 people. OR You onboarded candidates sourced from a recruitment agency. “Managed stakeholders” could mean you regularly influenced C-Suite leaders. OR Chased the CFO to sign off outstanding purchase orders. Stop making people connect the dots. Your CV isn’t a historical record of everything you’ve ever done. It’s an argument: Here’s what you need. Here’s what I’ve done. Here’s the evidence. Here’s why we should talk. Being perfect for the job means very little if your CV makes you look roughly relevant. Don’t just be the right candidate. Make it bloody obvious.

  • Apparently, when I was younger, I had a very clear career plan. Become the world’s first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Cowboy. 🤠🐢 Unfortunately, somewhere between these jeans, the cowboy hat and adulthood, that dream was cruelly taken away from me. So I became a Recruiter instead. Pretty much the same thing. Just fewer nunchucks and considerably more conversations about salary expectations. But it got me thinking… What did you want to be when you grew up? And what happened? When we’re kids, career choices are based on what excites us. Then adulthood arrives and we start choosing based on salary, security, qualifications, location… or simply whatever opportunity came along first. Suddenly, you’re 10, 15, 20 years into a career wondering whether you actually chose it… or just fell into it. Maybe you didn’t follow the childhood dream. Maybe you found something better. Maybe life simply got in the way. So I’m curious: What did you want to be? What are you now? And what stopped you? I’ll go first. Ninja Turtle Cowboy ➡️ Recruiter. Not quite the career path I had planned, but I reckon 6-year-old me would still be pretty impressed. 🐢🤠
