Walmart is once again facing a viral nationwide boycott (in the US) Once again driven by a mix of consumer outrage over social media influencer's lifetime store ban (Damon Darling), digital dynamic price surging, and deceptive pricing on pre-packaged goods Won't be the judge of whether this whole story is legitimate or if boycotts are actually working What's on my mind is that even if the key triggers for the boycott are different in a lot of ways for Target (offensive Halloween costume + DEI rollback backlash) something is telling me that if we compare both boycott calls and the way they are evolving, I'm ready to bet that inauthentic actors are going to be part of the picture too When Target faced a backlash, 27% of the sampled accounts were determined to be fake, and they contributed significantly to the viral backlash and fuelled a 764% spike in negative sentiment This could be occurring again this time with Walmart: undermining confidence/trust + amplifying an existing echo chamber Let me come back to you soon with some results 🤷♂️
Every brand hit by a boycott faces the same question. How much of this is organic, and how much is being amplified by accounts that don't represent real customers? Cyabra's latest research on the 2026 retail boycott found the answer isn't obvious from volume alone. Amazon, The Home Depot, and Starbucks each carry roughly 2.4 times as much inauthentic activity as Walmart in the exact same conversation, a gap that's invisible unless you're actually separating real accounts from fake ones. If your team is watching something similar unfold and can't answer that question yet, worth a look: https://lnkd.in/ehSMzjaN
Is LinkedIn turning into Instagram or TikTok? My feed used to be text posts and the occasional photo. Now it's mostly video. Turns out that's on purpose. LinkedIn says video uploads have grown for three straight quarters. A video post now gets 2-3x more reach than a text post. So the algorithm is pushing (not so slowly) everyone toward video. Before this, it was the "selfie era" (2024-2025), when execs kept posting 5 AM gym mirror selfies with a caption about grinding. Now it's short vertical videos instead. I still enjoy some of the content. But I joined LinkedIn for people's actual thoughts, updates, and opinions, not a highlight reel like Instagram or TikTok (c-suite going full vlogger was not on my bingo card) Anyone else notice their feed changing like this?
