In 2023 I was an SDR in a job I despised. Today I'm chief of staff at a VC-backed startup, on $100k plus equity, fully remote. How? 👇 Research and cold DMs. That is genuinely it. One message to a founder I had never met, sent at 23. He replied in thirty minutes. Now I'm sharing the whole playbook, and running it live on my own account. → How to use LinkedIn to get hired. The exact cold DMs I've sent, the slightly unhinged things I've done to land jobs, how I talked my way from SDR to chief of staff, and how you get into rooms nobody invited you to. → How to actually get seen. The hooks, formats and systems I've used to generate millions of impressions for founders backed by Y Combinator, a16z and Sequoia. I'm running the same thing on my own profile, so you can watch it work, or fail, in public. No guru stuff, just what has actually worked. The cold DMs, the wins, the cringe, all of it. A few ways in: → The Draft, my free weekly letter on career, marketing and building an income on the internet: https://franciscogost.com → The cold DM that got me the job, annotated line by line: https://franciscogost.com/resources/chief-of-staff-dm → Want to talk cold outreach or a career move? DM me. I reply to every single one.

One week ago, I posted that we're hiring at RallyUp (brave, I know). Since then I've received: > 235 connection requests > 128 DMs > 8 emails (well done to the ones who found it!) Out of those those 235 connection requests, only about half actually messaged me. That means if you DM someone who's hiring, you're already ahead of 50% of the competition. Of those 129 DMs, I'd argue about 70% were written with AI. That means if you write like an actual human being (which was part of the JD, by the way), you're already ahead of 70% of your competition. The "worst" part? 100% of people asked me for something the moment they messaged. → "Where can I apply." → "You should consider me." → "What can I do to get the job." Out of those 100+ "applicants," we decided to interview 4 people. Less than 1%. Why? Those 4 did two things nobody else did: 1. Led with value. One applicant sent us a full breakdown of our CEO's posting strategy, with advice on how to improve it. Instant interview for her (you know who you are!) :) 2. Came with proof. Another applicant had an old acquaintance see the post and directly recommend him to my CEO. Instant interview. I'll never stop saying this: it's never been harder to land a job, and it's never been easier to stand out. If opportunities are limited, be limitless. Thanks to everyone who messaged. Hope this rant, I mean post, helps with your next job application.
1 year ago I took a total shot sending a DM to a founder who I never met. I was a 23-year old kid working in consulting. You might assume that means I was sorted. Career set for now, nothing to do but look forward to the next stage. Not the case at all... I was hungry for more. Then Alec Kremins posted he was hiring for his early-stage startup, and the rest is history... What I did is simple in practice, yet rare to see. I picked one company, that being RallyUp, and worked out what it was doing. I found the person behind it (Alec). I sent a succinct, well-argued message about where the business could go next (if you want to see the full version, I'm super happy to share it, just drop me a message!) I was taking the skills and knowledge I'd built in my own time and testing them against a real business to see how they'd apply. For what it's worth, what I said about the business and where it could go is completely correct, and something Alec had been deliberating over for a couple of months. Regardless, the point isn't whether I was right or wrong, or whether that's the direction we go. It's the intent and the curiosity it showed. In the age of CVs screened by AI that have most likely also been written by AI, and no entry-level jobs, this is the way through. My entire career has been built off messages like this one. They don't always work. But when they do, they open up doors you can't even imagine... Here's to the hustlers who are not afraid to send messages every single day! Volume negates luck.
Hi, I’m Francisco, got a bunch of new followers here, so wanted to reintroduce myself. > Based in Spain (but debating between moving to Italy or Cyprus) > I’m a writer and marketing strategist. Lately, I also build a lot of stuff with AI. > Previously, I founded an events company and ran research for McKinsey and BCG. Currently, I work with some of the biggest names in b2b SaaS, mostly, the YC-founders you see posting on LinkedIn, and the odd mega-unicorn (+$10b valuation). > Hobbies: I've spent almost five years obsessed with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (so don’t be alarmed if I try to choke you out.) > I workout 6x/week and run not as often as I want to > I like reading self-help books & fiction (no, i don't think self-help books are overrated) > fav food: basque "txuleta" steak. fav desert: basque cheesecake (see a pattern?) > Interesting facts: I’m a twin (shoutout Alessandra) & speak 4 languages I started writing online in 2020 and you’ll mostly see me posting about how to grow on LinkedIn, land high-paying jobs with no experience, and building a life that I love. If that tickles your fancy, welcome to my lil corner of the internet.
