Turning words into revenue 💸 | SEO Content Strategist @ ClickSlice | Founder @ Empowered English | A B2B Content Marketing & Copywriting Agency for SaaS & AI ✴︎
Back in 2019, I was working as a Microsoft consultant, sitting in meetings where technical teams would spend millions building genuinely impressive products… then explain them to customers in a way that sounded like a WiFi router manual. I remember one meeting in particular where a guy spent twenty minutes explaining a solution using acronyms I’m still not fully convinced were real. The customer nodded politely the entire time. Absolutely nobody knew what was going on. That was the first time I properly noticed how many brilliant companies struggle to explain what they do and why their customer needs them. I didn’t know it then, but that was the spark of my career as a content strategist… Fast forward to now, and I run Empowered English, a boutique content agency with HUGE ambitions of leading the conversation around content. Somewhere between those two moments, “helping businesses sound less confusing online” turned into building content strategies for some ridiculously cool companies. Our results speak for themselves. One recent client added more than 100,000 organic visits to their blog in just 6 months. Another landed a contract with a Premiership football club through LinkedIn content we worked on together. We’ve worked with brands like Upwork, ElevenLabs, Pipedrive, Wrike, AirDNA, Microsoft, and a lot of companies doing very complicated things that needed somebody to translate them into normal human language. Today, Empowered English is a 7-figure content agency focused on SEO content strategy, thought leadership, copywriting, and white-label support for agencies that need content that actually sounds like the company behind it. The goal has stayed pretty much the same the entire time: Help smart businesses stop sounding painfully forgettable. So, if your content is bringing in traffic but not customers, if your website sounds nothing like the people inside your company, or if you’re quietly dying every time someone says the phrase “thought leadership”, send me a message. We’ll probably get along. → Let’s talk

Over on my YouTube channel, my mission is to help writers make more money in the AI era. Now, I know things are hard for many right now. The cost of living crisis is global, and it’s making just keeping our heads above water hard. At the same time, writing rates are being squeezed and it’s harder than ever to etch out a living as a creative. Unfortunately, us writers were some of the first to be “replaced” by AI, and many of us are looking at our bank balances, frantically applying for any job going. I know because I was also let go from a job I had because of AI. A load of my margins have been squeezed as clients pay less and my writers (rightly) demand more. Yet somehow, I’ve managed to grow my content agency every year since 2019. I’ve managed to pay myself (and my writers) more every year since then. And I’m pretty confident we’re going to keep growing over the next few years, too. So what am I doing differently? This is what I hope to show you over on YouTube. How to find the best jobs, how to apply and still get work, how to position yourself as a phenomenal writer and business person so that work falls into your lap as it does mine. If you’re a writer looking to continue being a creative in 2027 and beyond… then I’m posting AT LEAST one video a week over there. Go check it out. In the meantime — what are you struggling with right now? Drop a comment with a question / an issue you’re having as a freelancer looking for a job, make sure you’re connected with me, and I’ll give you some personalised help in the DMs. ⬇️⬇️
AI-generated feedback is a scourge on creative society, and you can’t tell me otherwise. Over the summer I took on a straightforward website rewrite project. Right from the first meeting I had a lot of ideas on where to take the site, but the client just had a small budget so we settled on rewriting and adding small sections to the existing pages. So far so good. I got on some calls, got off to a great start, then delivered the draft. The initial feedback was good, I got on another call and they told me a couple of minor changes were needed. He’ll send me over some of his thoughts. Great! No problem :) Fast forward a week and 3x20(ish) page Claude docs land in my inbox. Filled with absolute waffle. Here are a couple of verbatim quotes from one of the docs to give you a taster of what we’re working with… (I wish I was making this up) “If the website hands us to the digital twin bracket, every robotics conversation for the next two years starts from behind.” (They’re not in robotics) “Also, the timing is bad to retreat.” (This is not out of context, this is literally a whole stand alone point). “The catch is that a reconstruction gives you something to look at and something to bump into, and nothing else.” (A “reconstruction” in this case is a metaphor??? It’s not the product) So yeah, urm what the hell is that?! It makes maybe a bit of sense if you squint? But in terms of what this means for the website copy? Well, I’ve not got a clue. In that 20 page doc there were also entire new wireframes with proposed h2s like “What This Actually Means”, made up keywords and references to pages that didn’t exist. Amazing. What can I do with this? How can I turn this stuff into a cohesive narrative and make edits to my draft? It’s genuinely an impossible task. So I asked for clarity. Actually I said “I don’t accept feedback like this, can you please provide me your human feedback?” The reply: “this is my human feedback” 🥴😬😬😬🥴🥴🥴🥴 OK lol. It’s been a month since then, and I don’t think they’re coming back to finish the project. And tbqh I don’t think I want them to.
Job hunting for the Get That Money (GTM) 🤑 newsletter and we found this vacancy for a brave right-wing soul... 🥴 Not sure I'd want to be writing the words behind the failing Reform party... But each to their own I guess! Having said that, this one won't make it into next week's newsletter. Politics aside, my view is that no salary available means it's likely to be criminally underpaid, even though the Reform party have received all those millions in crypto donations... *shocked face* Also, I won't be giving Nigel Bumface Farage access to all the lovely writers who are already subscribed ☀️ If you are looking for a new writing job that pays well and that gives you opportunities you won't find elsewhere, then Get That Money is for you.
