  • Everybody talks about AI data centers. But do you actually know what they are? Sharing a great breakdown from Brij Kishore Pandey: AI might feel like software, But behind every AI model is massive physical infrastructure. Every prompt you send, API request you make, AI application you use Ultimately depends on servers, networking equipment, storage, power, and cooling. So what actually happens inside a data center? 1. Patch panels create the physical network connections 2. Switches forward traffic between different devices 3. Firewalls monitor and secure network traffic 4. Load balancers distribute requests across servers 5. Servers provide the computing power for applications and AI workloads 6. Storage systems keep data available 7. UPS systems provide temporary backup power when the grid fails 8. PDUs distribute electricity to the equipment We often talk about AI infrastructure through software. Distributed systems. Cloud computing. AI agents. But underneath all of these abstractions is hardware. Lots of it. And when AI workloads scale, The physical layer becomes increasingly important. You need enough compute. Fast enough networks. Low-latency storage. Effective cooling. Reliable power. And enough redundancy to keep everything running. The next time you use AI, remember: There are physical machines doing the work behind the screen. Understanding what sits inside a data center gives you: A better understanding of what actually powers AI. Because before there was the cloud, there were machines. And those machines still run everything. P.S. What is your favorite AI topic? ♻️ Repost so others can better understand AI infrastructure. ---- 📌 Get my top 100 infographics for free: 1) Follow me. 2) Subscribe to my free newsletter at WildCapital.co.
