If Nike owned, opened a hotel I think we would be able to guess pretty accurately what it would be like. If Hyatt came out with sneakers, We'd have no clue because Hyatt doesn't have a brand They have a logo. Via Seth Godin
This brand built a business around the demand Aesop and Byredo already paid for. Element Brooklyn sells candles, hand soap, body care and home products inspired by cult luxury scents. And they make the comparison very obvious. Their Reading Room candle is $35 vs. $99 for Byredo Bibliothèque. Their Mandarin Crush hand wash is roughly half the price of Aesop Resurrection. Aesop and Byredo spent years building recognition around these scents. Element gets to enter with: "Like this scent? Here's a more affordable way to get it." That's a much easier customer acquisition problem. The customer already knows the scent. They already have an association with it. Element just gives them another way to buy into it. Then they built retention into the model. Buy the product once. Come back for the refill. The lesson for consumer brands: You don't always need to create demand from scratch. You can build your brand around the demand the category leader has already created.
This fitness YouTuber sold 20,000 bags of candy in his first hour online. Five years later, Hershey bought the entire company. Maxx Chewning spent years filming himself buying sour candy. So when Sour Strips launched in 2019, nobody had to be convinced. 20,000 bags gone in the first hour. Add branding that looks like streetwear instead of confection… And a founder who stayed in the seat after the exit. Hershey bought the whole thing in 2024. Incredible job by Maxx and his team. 📌 Want to be a Top 1% Growth Marketer? I am hosting a FREE lesson on Sept 17th: https://lnkd.in/gSPCXFzn
