Anyone can ship a prototype. We build the product. We design and build software, and run it as your fractional CTO.
I build and rescue startup tech stacks. Got a big idea and no tech team? I'll design and ship the first real version. Got a product and a headache? I'll stabilise it, clean it up, and make it scale. Two halves to what I do. My team builds the product: web and mobile apps, data and infrastructure platforms, websites. Or I run your technology as fractional CTO. Either way, I wholeheartedly promise I'll never ask you to learn what Kubernetes is. Recent work: a document-automation platform that cut a months-long, multi-team approvals process to about five minutes, and saved the client's teams hundreds of hours a month. And a rescue for Spectinga after a tech failure halved their revenue, where we mapped the fix in under 30 minutes. Book a call at kyln.digital.

4 months ago, a car dealer asked me to build a platform to replace an entire industry. I built the first version in a weekend for £3k. Here’s how to avoid traditional agency fees. The client explained that the entire luxury car market runs through a WhatsApp group. In this industry, the business isn't selling cars but rather finding them. And the finding happens in the group chat. So you pay a monthly fee to get access to 400+ dealers on WhatsApp. One of my clients has worked that way for years, but wanted a proper product instead. Before speaking to us, their options were: - do nothing - pay traditional agency-money for a first attempt - build it themselves That third one was never going to happen… They're brilliant at what they do, but they don't spend their days on a computer. They spend them driving up and down the country collecting cars. So we built them a prototype over a weekend for about £3k, just to prove the thing could work. Then discovery, build, show them, adjust, and round again until it was right. The platform went live this month! P.S. the actor they hired fell through so they asked me to be the face of their videos. All their Ferraris are in Sheffield, I live in Sevenoaks, so I had to sweet talk the garage down my road to let me take photos with their cars! Video from the studio takes.
I own three games consoles and none of them are plugged in. That's the reality of being your own boss. You get sold it as freedom: - answer to nobody - work when you want - and only on the things you find interesting. AHA! If only…. The reality is I never get a day off. I should have expected it though because I’m wired that way. If my wife isn't around, I forget to eat. She'll ask what I had for lunch, and I'll think for a second and realise that's why I'm starving. None of this makes me miserable - it's what building a business takes and I love it. But I do sometimes crave an evening spent on the sofa playing video games. (having said all that - I’ve already booked off 2 days to play Fable when it’s released. I've been waiting 15+ years for this game!)
I took a 50% pay cut to change jobs. 12 months later I'd tripled what I was earning before it Here's what I'd weigh up if you’re offered a job that pays less: I was in sales at the time, and good at it in patches. The trouble with sales is that it's boom and bust, and when your income depends on closing the deal, the slower months are stressful rather than just boring. Everyone told me not to leave. “Once you've gone from tech into sales you can never go back”, they said. “Nobody will take you seriously as a technical person again.” I went back anyway (on half the money). Then something fairly obvious happened. I liked it. So I turned up every morning actually wanting to do the work, and got better much faster than people who were there just for the paycheck. Within a year I was earning more than I ever had in sales. The salary you're offered is important but what you should assess is how quickly can you improve over the next few years.
