About Lauren de Leon

CEO, Haven Pet Insurance | Making Quality Pet Care Affordable | Partnerships • Growth • Trust

As the CEO of Haven Pet Insurance, I am guided by a simple belief: every pet deserves access to quality healthcare. This work is personal. When my rescue cat needed thousands of dollars in urgent medical care, I couldn't afford it and didn't even know pet insurance existed. That moment is why Haven exists. I started full time in January 2026 and we are now live across the portfolio of the largest multifamily operator in the US, with over 100 policies bound and growing every day. What I'm focused on right now: ❈ Scaling our anchor partnership across 400,000 pet-owning residents ❈ Bringing on the next national distribution partner ❈ Raising our pre-seed round from investors who see where B2B2C insurtech is going Before Haven, I worked in partnerships and communications. I'm an original New Yorker now based in Denver, building this company alongside my husky-malamute, Koji. If you're working in proptech, pet care, B2B2C distribution, or investing in any of it, I'd love to connect!

  • Happy International Dog Day! Not just to Koji, but to all of the dogs along the way ❤️ Kona, Wookie, and Campbell all came and stayed in my life during such important times. Kona was our first dog and taught me responsibility. Wookie was with me through high school and college, through so many moves and transitions. Campbell has always been my shadow, she just turned 10 and is as spry as ever! Dogs give us all of themselves. They love us unconditionally and stay by our sides on our toughest days. They’re also equally excited when we celebrate our wins 🏆 Thankful I’ve had so many great pups in my life and I hope every dog parent is pampering their best friend a little extra today!

  • After a week of exciting developments, pitches, and new connections, Koji gave me my Friday reminder to let loose and be a little silly! Hope everyone gets to take a deep breath and enjoy their weekend ☀️

  • 30% of pet owners spend more every month on their pet's health and care than on their own. More than their gym membership, their copays, their supplements, anything they do for themselves. I don't think that's irrational at all. Pets can't advocate for themselves, and most owners feel that responsibility in a real, daily way. But when you put that stat next to the fact that 67% of pet owners have already been hit with an unexpected vet bill of $500 or more, 28% regularly spend more on their pet than they budgeted for, and only about 4% of pets in the U.S. are insured, something doesn't add up. People are prioritizing their pets financially, absorbing real financial shocks, and still largely going without coverage. I was really happy to see that 86% of people who do have pet insurance say they've gotten their money's worth. The demand is clearly there. The harder part is reaching people at the right moment, in the places they already trust, before an unexpected bill is already on the table. That's the problem Haven is built around, and the numbers keep reminding us we picked the right one to work on. Pet insurance doesn't just protect against the $500 emergency. For the 28% consistently going over budget, it's also what makes the ongoing cost of pet ownership just a little bit more predictable. Link to study here: https://lnkd.in/gDNpiMRb
