Psychology background, so I care less about vanity metrics and more about why someone actually clicks "buy." A year ago I'd have killed for where I am now. So why does it feel like I'm behind? I'm always rushing. Next goal, next post, next level. There’s always that voice saying "yes, but what's next? How can I do more?" So I made myself write down what past-me would've wanted: ⭐️Work in an industry I love ⭐️Create content as part of my job ⭐️ Get invited to the events I used to see on my feed ⭐️Build a personal brand around what I genuinely care about ⭐️Rewire my mindset and drop (most of) the limiting beliefs Every single one? Done. And none of it was luck. I showed up every day, whether that was posting or connecting. I tried the trends, then realised my own thoughts did better. And I stopped copying others and started talking about what I'm actually passionate about. The goal is a life I love. Freedom to work from anywhere. Owning my own time. Doing work I'm proud of, that genuinely helps people. I'm closer now than I've ever been. Not there yet, but getting there. Feeling behind ≠ Being behind.
Nothing makes a Brit more uncomfortable than someone saying they want to be successful. I know because I'm one of them. Yesterday I posted about the life I'm building, and was thinking about the fact i’d like to say i am ambitious. But there is a level of internal cringe that comes after that thought. Every time I talk about ambition, there's this little voice going "who do you think you are?" Krissy Cela said it best - in the UK if you talk about ‘unrealistic’ goals, you get told to settle down and that you’re getting ahead of yourself. Apparently in America, wanting more is celebrated. You talk about your goals and people cheer you on. The American Dream n all that. Here? Say you want to be successful and you need to come back down to earth. Talk about your wins and you're "showing off." Want something bigger than where you grew up and people look at you funny. It sounds harsh, but a ‘small town mindset’ is cancerous. And as a woman, it's another layer. A man who's ambitious is "driven." A woman who's ambitious is "a lot." Or she's asked how she'll balance it all, as if wanting a career is something she should feel guilty about?? So as a result, you learn to shrink You add "I'm so lucky" to every win. You say "but i’m not there yet!" before anyone else can. (I did it in yesterday's post without even noticing.) I'm not saying we all need to become hustle culture LinkedIn bros. But wanting more shouldn't feel like something you have to shut up about for the comfort of others. so: i want more. (Consider this my checkpoint. I'll be back in a year to look at all the cool shit I made happen.)
Nothing grows in the comfort zone (another stolen idea from my boyfriend) Now obviously he didn’t come up with this idea, but he said it to me a few days ago and I was at the gym when it came back into my head. I have been strength training on a consistent, some would say obsessive, basis for 5 years now. I'm currently in a growing phase. Also just got back from holiday where I was (somewhat mindfully) eating what I wanted to. So I'm not ultra-lean, my abs have lost their definition (rip), and im probably holding more water than i’d like. Now I'm pretty harsh on myself, as I know what I am capable of looking like, and therefore when I don't like what I see, I immediately mentally beat myself up. However…. this growth phase is necessary in order to build. Without feeling uncomfortable for a short amount of time, I would stay the exact same. In order to reach my goal (more muscle) I HAVE to get out of my comfort zone. I HAVE to look my definition of ‘worse’ for a period of time. That’s how these things work. And such is life. Now my boyfriend was talking about his career plans when he said this, not my fitness goals. However, this literally applies to achieving anything you want. It gets worse before it gets better. Growing, a lot of the time, isn't pretty or sexy… it's actually quite ugly. But it's the price you have to temporarily pay. And it does, eventually, pay off. You just have to have the grit to stick at it. So whatever your next goal is, embrace the ugly. Embrace the uncomfortability. Embrace the struggle. Because ultimately, that's what makes it worth it. Your ability to succeed is directly related to your ability to withstand the unknown. Do not let your feelings get in the way of the goal🤝
