I've been back in Melbourne for three years now and it feels like just yesterday I was at the departure gates on my way to Singapore. Since I've been back I've grown so much as a person. I've healed my broken heart, I've worked on global media campaigns with successful asian snack brands, worked with an 8-division world champion, delivered PR boxes Australia wide. I've even become a Pilates girly which wasn't really a thing for me back then!! I'm also really proud to say I haven't been in hospital for burn out for over two years now and I've also healed my gut health. I'm healthier than I have been both mentally, physically and emotionally. I've been living in Melbourne post-COVID and it isn't the vibrant city it once was. Events feel rather dull and honestly people in Vic just seem so fed up with the economy. I do hope it will return to it's glamour in the coming years but I know that's truly dependent on the level of leadership involved. Throughout my comeback season, my return to myself, there's one big lesson I've learnt. You have to be your own friend throughout your journey. If your mind is not a safe space for you to be you, then neither will your body and neither will your home, no matter what your home looks like. I believe if you're a business owner and even if you're a high achiever, surrounding yourself with good people who you can be yourself with is super key. I hope as you read this, someone comes to mind out there you can turn to and communicate with but anything and everything. The rise of AI and our digital economy has transformed businesses and relationships overnight. It's also disrupting industries like mine, which I won't delve into now. I implore you all to remember effective communication, human connection and genuine intention will never go out of fashion. I hope you remember this as our world continues to fasten in it's yearning for a more AI-driven-automated-bro-pro-Claude-marketing world. hashtag, foodforthought.
Some things I’ve been noticing more and more in the way our society is moving towards is there’s a dire need for original thought, genuine connection and a stronger sense of community. So if you’re building something - don’t forget community starts with understanding everyone who may attend your event will be coming from a different place. So be both welcoming and kind. If you’re wanting to boost your profile or share content, share your perspective without feeding it straight into AI. Literacy, comprehension and understanding your own mind are truly gifts we have been given. Don’t lose this. And finally, when you meet someone at an event or at work or through a social gathering, do your best to listen first before pitching. Our world is changing and we all come from different walks of life. A genuine commitment to listening can help you both learn and connect at a deeper level. Here is an unrelated elevator selfie, which is where a lot of these thoughts tend to enter my mind these days. #journey #reminders #humanconnection #digitaleconomy #entrepreneur #founderjourney
Getting featured in a major publication is not automatically good PR. Good PR is about strategic placement. It is about getting the right message in front of the right people, in the right environment, at the right moment. A strong message delivered through the wrong channel still underperforms. I’ve had founders tell me for years that they want to be featured in Forbes. And look, Forbes is a respected publication. It carries credibility, status, and strong brand equity. But too many PR decisions are driven by ego metrics instead of communication strategy. Plz can we start taking this seriously this year. People chase logos that impress other founders instead of asking the question that actually matters: Does this platform influence the audience I need to reach? This is the number one question you need to ask yourself before you pitch yourself for PR/brand opportunities. You need to understand your audience’s media consumption habits before investing in PR. Ask yourself... Dos my audience read Forbes and the AFR every morning? Or are they spending their time on TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, podcasts, newsletters, Facebook groups, creator channels, and niche industry publications? Who do they trust for information? What shapes their perception? Where are they already paying attention? These questions matter, and whoever is representing you in marketing or PR should be asking them. Businesses need to focus on understanding the relationship between the platform, medium and audience first and checking whether it's even relevant to the campaign they want to run. For one of my AgriTech clients, FreshPlaza is one of the most important media outlets in their ecosystem because their distributors, partners, and buyers actually read it. The average farmer may recognise the Forbes brand, but they are not opening Forbes to make purchasing decisions about the latest agritech product. Industry relevance will outperform vanity placement almost every time. The strongest PR strategies are not built around visibility for the sake of visibility. They are built around influence, audience alignment, authority, and commercial relevance. And if you are working with someone who does not care about this level of strategic detail, then you are probably spending money on what I call a “one-night-stand campaign” - short-term visibility with no long-term brand equity, authority, or legacy attached to it. Real PR is not about collecting logos, although I agree it does look cool AF. It is about building a brand ecosystem that allows people to remember you, trust you, search for you and and choose you when they need your product or service. That is the difference between a one-night-stand campaign and legacy brand development. If you’re exploring PR for your company or personal brand and want help understanding your audience, positioning, media strategy, DM me. #communicationsstrategy #pressrun #askquestionsplz #legacybrand
