Most businesses don’t fail because they lack a good product. They fail because they never build a scalable sales function. That’s why I founded Sales Geek. We’re on a mission to change the way the world perceives sales. Since 2017 we’ve grown Sales Geek into a global franchise community helping SMEs access strategic sales leadership and world-class sales training without the cost of a full-time sales director. Today our franchise partners operate across the UK, USA, India, GCC, Malaysia, Mongolia and Singapore — with more global expansion ahead. Alongside building the business, I speak about: > Modern sales leadership > The future of sales > Building high-performance cultures > Founder journey > Resilience and mindset I also happen to be a one-lung ultra marathon runner, recently completing a 50-mile ultramarathon — which has taught me a lot about mindset, adversity and sustainable performance in both life and business. If you’re: > Exploring franchise opportunities > Looking for a speaker > Interested in modern sales leadership > Want to build your sales function > Passionate about changing the perception of sales Drop me a message.

I was failing while at the same time looking successfull on the outside. This picture was a reminder to me of the sliding doors moments that can lead to something better. I was 31, had a great job, an amazing wife and a beautiful little boy. 2 years later I would walk away from the world of employment because my wife, my son, my sanity and well-being were all more important. It wasn't even a hard decision, scary as hell and full of uncertainty but ultimately the pain of sticking was greater than the pain of change. I'd worked relentlessly to build a career having left school at 16 and failed in my first career choice of professional golf. I fell in love with sales and loved the path it took me, it's why I feel a debt if gratitude to the profession. However that same career ended up making me sad, stressed and more over a bad father and husband. It's not the sort of thing that happens overnight, it builds up and creeps up on you and it's only when you're on the other side of it that you realised how unhappy you were. Everything I’ve done is to make this little boy (who is now 13) proud. Helping thousands of small businesses while liberating people from the same place I found myself in is why I do what I do. That journey isn't always easy and at times enormously stressful but I'll never ever lose sight of what I left behind and how hard that was. Change is scary, business is tough but spending a lifetime helping others while being a better healthier husband and father is priceless.
Since 1st January this year I’ve run 948 miles according to Strava. Seeing that number this morning something stood out. Firstly it’s a 78% increase on last year, bigger goals require bigger commitment to training and the process. Nothing new just relentless commitment to banking the miles. The training gets you over the line not the better shoes or super supplement. The biggest thing however is that only 107 of those miles were celebrated and came with a medal: Howgills trail marathon - 26 miles Pennine barrier ultra - 50 miles Maverick Chiltern ultra - 31 miles The remaining 841 miles across 103 runs came with no medal, no one clapping, no one cheering you on, no aid stations, no finish line, no celebration, no social media post. Just lots of early nights, early alarm sets, discipline, good fuelling, hill repeats, hydration and commitment to a goal and a way of life. Feels a lot like a metaphor for running a business… Glimpses of glory come from discipline to repeat the things that work while no one is looking or cheering you on. The term “building a business” gets banded around all the time but I often see people overlook the definition of the term building. Brick by brick, run by run, client by client… It all stacks up. You can either stack good habits or bad ones. P.S. I still struggle to call myself a runner…
I had the pleasure of hanging out with our chief geeks at Sales Geek Scotland 🏴 this week. What a cool city Glasgow is, the place was buzzing ahead of the Commonwealth Games which felt like a great metaphor for what the guys are building in Scotland too. Driven my heart, care and a real love for the people they serve its inspiring to see the passion behind the growth and a real reminder to me why we do what we do. I'm a great believer that talk is cheap and action pays the bills. Building anything requires action, belief, a clear sense of vision and above all the ability to learn to enjoy the journey. Thank you Peter. Barclay L.ISP and Davie Sneddon L.ISP for your kind hospitality and the amazing view!
