An agent files a claim on an insurance portal. Logs in, fills the form, submits. The screen says received. Four minutes, task complete, no errors anywhere in the log. Two days later an adjuster phones the office because a policy number needs confirming. A person who filed that claim sorts it out in thirty seconds. The agent has no idea the call ever happened, and the claim quietly stalls. Nothing on the screen was ever wrong. That is the part worth sitting with. Most agent reliability talk is about the model: can it find the button, read the field? That failure is loud and cheap. The expensive one looks like success when it happens. Ground truth shows up later, where the agent can't see it: a phone call, a shared inbox, a rejection three steps downstream. So when we record a workflow with a team, the question is: when this task finishes, what tells us it was done right?
An hour of computer-use agent cost about $6–8. An hour of offshore labour costs $10 fully loaded. US back-office hour $30–45. But, agents are still slower than people. A task someone finishes in 2-3 minutes can take an agent 8-10. Thats a 4x time mutilple. Apply that to AI cost and you just achieved parity with US back-office costs. On top of that, is that the CUA runs at 3am and scales to demand without a hiring plan. I am seeing this right now: Currently, CUA is used for tasks humans aren't available (there are many tasks like that). Once price and speed will improve by one magnitude (probably within 6-9 months), we will start comparing CUA to humans.
I am often asked about AI models. Here are my honest thoughts. Whats the best model? Small, large, open-source, proprietary, fine-tuned, computer-use? Maybe back to ML? The reality is that there is no single best model. Just as with human intelligence: - different areas of expertise - some internal, some external - some shared, some protected by heavy contracts - intelligence with different price tags I am pretty sure you will also find all forms of AI within an advanced enterprise. Hard problems at the core business? Own models. Hard problems at supportive functions? SOTA models. High-volume agentic automation? Open-source models. One of a kind problem? Maybe computer use or another AI expert All kinds of AI will have great demand increase and adoption. You should use all of them as tools. The market ist growing every day. Its not zero sum at all. And the picture? That's my favorite steak frites place in Dubai, close to DIFC. If you wanna exchange GTM practices and are in Dubai, send me a DM!
