HUGE news: one of the world’s biggest VC firms, a16z, just launched a free academy for founders 🔥 Meet the Horowitz Andreessen Academy, a new full-time program in San Francisco for young builders. The first class will have around 50 people. They’ll spend the year working on their own projects and taking classes in areas like startups, fundraising, AI and design. The lineup is crazy: → Ben Horowitz on Leading Through the Hard Things → Steven Sinofsky on the history of computing → Fei-Fei Li and Yann LeCun on the AI research track → Sam Altman, Jensen Huang and Patrick Collison in the wider network The school is run by Gagan Biyani (co-founder of Udemy and Maven), with Marc Andreessen and Erik Torenberg on the board. The school is tuition-free, students get $50k+ in compute credits, another $5k for a project abroad, plus a 3-month co-op at companies like OpenAI, Anthropic and NVIDIA. You can apply with a high school diploma and max 1 year of full-time college. The Academy is looking for people who have already built something - a product, research project, community, audience, etc. This might be the biggest opportunity for young ambitious founders right now. The program starts in September 2027. 230+ startups presented at Y Combinator’s Summer 26 Demo Day last week. Here's what they're building: - 121 in B2B - 56 in industrials - 22 in healthcare - 16 in fintech - 11 in consumer - 6 in real estate and construction - 2 in government and education 91% of the batch is AI. Nobody's surprised by that anymore. What's new is where in the stack these companies sit, and the batch moved down. ▪️ Companies below the model (energy, chips, data centers, training, inference) went from 8% to 20% of the batch. Applications fell from 55% to 39%. ▪️ 21 companies sell into the compute buildout. Atomarine is putting data centers on barges cooled by seawater, with $4B in LOIs. Parasma (YC S26) wants to run compute on human brain cells. ▪️ 16 companies supply training data or RL environments to frontier labs, up from almost none last batch. Praxis (YC S26) records people doing their jobs inside real businesses to train robots. ▪️ 45 companies ship physical hardware, double last batch. 24 of them are robotics. Nori is near $500K in sales on a $1,600 home robot it launched 6 weeks ago. ▪️ Defense went from 6 to 9. Isengard Industries builds jet-powered drones in allied countries, already at $10M revenue. ▪️ 21 companies (9%) skipped selling software and became the firm: 2 accounting firms, a law firm, an insurance carrier with no underwriters, a freight brokerage, and a radiology practice already buying a $4.3M practice. They do the work and charge for the outcome. ▪️ Meanwhile, sales and marketing AI fell from 18 companies to 6. Customer support went from 5 to 1. The money went to manufacturing, logistics, construction, insurance, accounting. ▪️ The founders keep getting younger. 37% are students or recent grads, and a third of the chip and model-training companies are all-student teams. The hardest part of the map. The app layer got crowded, so founders went where a wrapper can't follow: training data, environments, chips, robots, and in 21 cases, owning the business itself. Your thoughts? -- P.S. We’re building the best AI English tutor in the world. Try it to improve your speaking - it’s 15× cheaper than a human one → GetFluently.app
🔥 This NVIDIA program for AI startups gives you free cloud credits, technical training, and VC intros - all for zero equity: It’s called NVIDIA Inception, and it’s one of the most accessible startup programs for AI founders. Here’s what you can get: ▪️ Free cloud credits from NVIDIA and its partners ▪️ VC exposure via Capital Connect and events ▪️ Latest SDKs, model libraries, and developer forums ▪️ Free self-paced AI courses + discounted workshops ▪️ Co-branded posts, event assets, and GTM support ▪️ Preferred pricing on NVIDIA hardware and software To qualify, your startup needs to be incorporated, less than 10 years old, have at least 1 developer, and maintain a working website. $0 fees, no equity requirements, no cohorts, and no deadlines. You can apply whether you’re bootstrapped, pre-seed, or already VC-backed. All you need is a pitch deck and basic info about your company and funding. Compute costs, technical training, and investor access are the top 3 things every early AI startup needs, and this program helps with all of them. If you're building with AI, don’t sleep on this!
