more business cards in my pocket than i know what to do with. GITEX AI Türkiye today. talked to founders from poland, the us, uk, pakistan, uae, china, and korea, in english, back to back. not the usual istanbul meetup crowd, this was an actual mix of people building things across very different markets. A good example is the conversation with Bahar Charyyeva also caught up with people i already knew, including Adem AY, founder of VOYA | Digital Product Design Studio, plus good conversations with Utkan Incetan from Luron AI, Inc. and Zain Ul Abadeen, founder of Zaptal, about where their businesses stand right now and where they think the industry is heading. pitched what i've been working on in edtech to a few people along the way, still early, more on that soon. walked the startup floor too, some genuinely promising stuff, some pretty basic ideas dressed up as innovation. also somehow ended up liking the helium balloon couches more than I expected to, and found a car simulator at one of the stands, proof there's still a kid in me somewhere. me and Ateş Erdem Akköse were probably the youngest people at the entire fair. didn't run into anyone close to our age the whole day. Shoutout to him for the company good reminder of what an actual global network looks like, not just a local bubble. hashtag #GITEXAITurkiye hashtag #AI hashtag #Istanbul
i just became the first high schooler to ever present at IEEE HPEC. at least that's what one of the session organizers, Kurt Keville, told me, and i'm still sitting with it. tonight was my second paper, first as lead author: "subject-independent muscle fatigue detection from surface EMG with a spiking neural network and verified FPGA RTL," presented at IEEE HPEC 2026, hosted by MIT Lincoln Laboratory. session 3-P2, poster session. co-authored with Zeynep BAHAT, Zeynep Elveren, and my mentor I. Can Dikmen at İstinye Üniversitesi. also want to thank Ella Fortenbery. we talked in a breakout room the day before and she said she'd try to make it to my poster. she did, even with class going on. next stop: IAC26 in october.
I was the oldest person in the room today. As a 10th grader. 74 prep students, an "ask me anything" panel, panelists were 9th and 10th graders. Somehow that made me the senior one in the room, a flip from what I'm used to. Conferences, research labs, competitions, I'm almost always the youngest person there. I never had that growing up here. The actual seniors never cared much about what we were doing, so I built my own direction from people I met along the way, mentors, researchers, founders who had no reason to talk to a ninth grader but did anyway. Wasn't nervous up there. I'd already stood on bigger stages, in a language that isn't my first one. Now I'm one of the people prep students look at the way I used to look at no one in particular. Proud of the climb. A little unsettled graduation keeps getting closer. Both at once, I don't think that resolves, you just carry it. Baykar Fen Lisesi😇
