  • This is the longer version of my last LinkedIn post that talks about the 'Japa' wave in Nigeria, with added context and nuance. I also wrote more comprehensively about our marketing approach to taking on a 30-year-old brand. https://lnkd.in/eFmqCFVf

  • Nigeria's 'Japa' wave wasn't a crisis for our brand. It was our market. Let me explain. I spent years running marketing for a global education brand in Nigeria. And the most important thing I learned had nothing to do with media budgets or creative: Growth lives where pain meets intent. Nigeria had both, in abundance. 📊 What the data shows: • Emigration from Nigeria has grown 400%+ since 1990 • Post-EndSARS (2020), UK visa issuances to Nigerians jumped 210% in two years • 141,000 Nigerians moved to the UK in a single 12-month period • 45% of Nigerians say they want to leave - Pew Research • Youth unemployment is at 53% (the same people, Tosin Eniolorunda and Moniepoint Group deemed unemployable) Every negative headline was a signal. Every political crisis sharpened intent. Every Japa celebration post on social media was organic reach we couldn't buy. We didn't manufacture the desire to leave. Nigeria did. We just made sure our brand owned the next step in that journey. The real marketing lesson here isn't Nigeria-specific: The brands that win aren't always the ones with the biggest budgets. They're the ones that understand why their customers are in the room. In Nigeria, people weren't searching for a product. They were searching for a future. We just made sure we were the answer. I built a full public tracker on Nigerian emigration trends 1990–2024 (of course with Claude), including the EndSARS impact data. https://lnkd.in/ewMUyPSJ #MarketingStrategy #Nigeria #GrowthMarketing #DemandGeneration #Japa #AfricaMarketing #BrandGrowth

  • Google Ads recommendations really are a different breed. "Spend an extra $239 to get +0.074 conversions." Oh, thank you, Google, for this absolute masterclass in efficiency. I’ve always felt my marketing strategy was a bit too "whole-number" focused. 🤣 I’m currently deciding which 7% of a customer I’m actually buying here. A left pinky toe? A split-second of eye contact? Or maybe just the millisecond they spent accidentally hovering over the ad before realizing their mistake? 😕 The math is mathing, but the logic is on vacation.
