  • Hot take: objection handling is mostly bull 💩 At least on cold calls. Some clients think cold callers can "objection handle" prospects into meetings. That’s only true in a small number of cases… When the prospect was OPEN to having a conversation. Here’s an example from yesterday. The prospect said the call wasn’t relevant because he was already building a workflow to cross-sell his customer segments. I lightly disagreed… Explaining that our product (Replenit) improves your cross-sell rate, without manually needing to build segments and workflows ever again. That "objection handle" built enough curiosity for him to agree to a meeting. But here's the thing. If he wanted to hang up during the call… no amount of objection handling would have won him over. The best you can do in those last 15 seconds… Is ask a question to understand why they're not interested. Then adjust your message in the follow up. True or false?

  • Marketers have no idea how to build a list. They’ll show off their AI agentic GTM whatever workflow that generates the “perfect” list. Then I call it and it’s full of 💩 The outcomes I get back: - Not in Swimlane - Not Me - Wrong Number I’m not trying to pick on marketers though. I think most of them are too far removed from the 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐬 to fix the 𝐢𝐧𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐬. I.e. they’re usually NOT reviewing cold calls and sales calls, then adjusting titles based on what's converting. I gotta shout out Yujin Jo though. I don’t even know her list building process. But she knows Vev's personas, gives me good data to work with, and always takes feedback on how to improve targeting. That’s why they're one of my best performing clients. P.S. I build my own lists with Landbase

  • Everyone asks if cold calling will work for them. My honest answer: Every channel has strengths and weaknesses. Top of funnel: - Referrals is the best converting channel. But volume is low and unpredictable. - Inbound is the cheapest, but the volume of QUALITY leads is also low and unpredictable. - Cold calling is predictable and scalable. But it costs more, so your LTV should probably be higher than $10k to justify it. Another thing to note... Down funnel, cold calling has lower show & close rates compared to inbound/referrals but it wins on SQL rate. TLDR: Cold calling increases your CAC but the volume + quality of leads are controllable. So you can reverse engineer your revenue target and hit it without relying on luck. If your LTV can absorb the cost, it’s worth it.
