About Laurence Paquette

Fractional CMO + Marketing, Comm & Leadership Advisor 📗 My book Lead Anyway comes out October 19th 🗓️ | Ex VP Marketing & Brand, Vestas | Executive Coach | Queer Neurodivergent Mom | 🇨🇦🇩🇰

Former VP Marketing and Brand at Vestas, the world's largest wind energy company. Left at the end of May 2026 to build PAQ Anyway, an independent consulting, coaching, and speaking practice. I spent 15 years at Vestas. Six roles. EUR 10M+ budgets. Global team. Campaigns that ran in The Economist, landed at COP27, and made it to TIME and Variety. I have done the work at scale, and I know what it actually takes to build a brand that holds up over time. Today, I work with organisations and leaders who want their brand, message, and leadership to align and hold. I work as a fractional CMO for founders and scale ups who need senior marketing leadership, without the cost or commitment of a full time hire. Big brand thinking, built to fit a lean team. I've run EUR 10M+ marketing budgets at Vestas and also built a brand from zero with no team and no playbook. Most fractional CMOs bring you one of those. I bring both. I support this work across nine areas: • Fractional CMO for startups and scale-ups • Interim CMO for enterprise organizations • Brand Audit and Diagnostic • Marketing and Communications Delivery • Content Strategy and Operations • Keynote speaking and workshops on leadership, brand, marketing, and inclusion • Executive and leadership coaching for professionals navigating growth and transition • Communication and presence coaching for leaders who want to express themselves with clarity and impact • Executive visibility and personal brand for senior professionals who want to build a credible and consistent presence I am also the author of Lead Anyway: 10 Rules for Leading When You Break the Mold (forthcoming, autumn 2026, De Gruyter), and I write The Real Brief, a weekly newsletter on leadership, marketing, and building something real. Originally from Montreal. Based in Copenhagen since 2006. Working internationally. 🌍 paqanyway.com ✉️ The Real Brief: laurencepaquette.substack.com 🎙️ Podcast: Corporate Survival Guide for Misfits 📹 TikTok: tiktok.com/@laurence.paq 📸 Instagram: @Laurence.paq ▶️ youtube.com/@laurencepaq

  • Almost three months ago, I left my corporate career, which had been the most important part of my working life. I mean I spent 15 years with the same employer climbing the ladder. Since I left, many people have asked me what I actually do now and how it’s going. The answer is a little less simple than what it used to be when I had a corporate title. Now I work with different companies, I write, I speak, I’m building my business PAQ Anyway with my co-founder and I’m still figuring out what this new work life looks like as I go. But to answer the question people ask, I made a short video. It’s also the start of a short series of video I’m making about the reality of leaving corporate after 15 years, including the parts I love, the parts that stress me out and the things I didn’t expect. Watch the first video here:

  • After 15 years in corporate, I’m now working with startups and scaleups and SMEs. It’s so different… it’s even hard to explain it! Anyway, to immerse myself in this new environment I went to Tech BBQ and met with different people doing all sorts of different things. When you spend 15 years in corporate, you forget that there is a world out there of people solving all sorts of problems, scramblings on small budget, making miracles out of grit and having an impact without office politics and an abundance of meetings. It’s been great to meet people at Tech BBQ doing all different things and inspiring me to continue on this new path I’m on even though it’s a lot of unknown! Anyway, if you’re a small company who needs marketing and comm support, reach out. I’m always interested in hearing about new companies and the challenges they face. If you’re considering a career change, also reach out. I love talking about this transition I’m on and hearing from others considering the same.

  • One of the things I was the most worried about when I left my corporate job and decided to become my own boss was that I'd have to now sell myself. After spending 15 years in a large company, I never had to go out and offer myself as the product to potential new clients. And I really thought I'd hate it and it would feel very cringe. Turns out I don't hate it at all and if it's cringe, I'm enjoying it. And it's probably because it actually doesn't feel like selling at all. It feels more like reaching out to people 1 on 1, meeting interesting people with interesting challenges and being very curious. And then I get to talk about what I know and for anyone with my type of brain, who doesn't enjoy the opportunity to info dump a little? 😉 So, apparently, I've learned that I actually like selling. And that's one of the many things I'm learning about myself on this new journey I'm on. I talk more about selling myself in the video below. For those of you who went independent, what surprised you the most?
