About Louis Grenier

Positioning + GTM for Established B2B | Author, “Stand The F*ck Out” | Dad, marketing troll, contrarian, husband, bowel cancer survivor

Bonjour bonjour, I’m Louis Grenier, a recovering Frenchman who helps established B2B companies find the edge they've been sitting on... and make it impossible to ignore. I run Stand The F*ck Out (STFO.io), a positioning and go-to-market consultancy for companies that have survived the rounds, the pivots, and the reorgs, but are now losing ground to AI noise and lookalikes. "The positioning GOAT." Harry Dry, creator of MarketingExamples.com "Louis's work flipped my struggling company from losing money to profiting close to two million dollars in a year. Because of him, we stopped copying others and figured out how to forge our own path to stand out." - Jonathan Goodman, best-selling author, Founder of the PTDC "Louis is a force to be reckoned with. Give him a product, a bunch of users, and a market opportunity and he will quickly identify the positioning gap—and work quickly to fill it. I should know; I worked with him on a project just like this for a €30M+ ARR SaaS brand. Louis is to positioning what Hoover is to vacuum cleaners—synonymous." - Sançar Sahin, former VP of Marketing at Typeform & Hotjar

  • 14 reasons why this photo of me and Seth Godin is AI-generated 1. No Purple Cow in shot. 2. My nose looks crooked. 3. I'm smiling. (I never smile.) 4. No baguette in shot either. 5. He's not wearing his purple glasses. 6. And I'm not wearing my signature fanny pack. 7. t's not a selfie. So who took it? Nobody. (Exactly.) 8. They say "never meet your heroes", and I always do what I'm told. 9. I'm French, so I can't possibly speak English, let alone write a book in it. 10. I never leave my garden office, and this doesn't look like my garden office. 11. Seth would never hold someone else's book like that. He cares way too much about his reputation. 12. Seth has posted a blog every single day for 20+ years. When exactly did he have time to stand still for this? 13. I come from a family of teachers. No business owners, nobody in marketing. Why the f*ck would this happen to me. 14. Both of us have the correct number of fingers. AI never gets that right. Which is exactly what an AI would do to throw you off. Bonus reason: Dave Gerhardt would never let a weirdo like me speak at his Exit Five conference in front of 400 very serious, very professional B2B marketers. BUT!, if by some miracle this is real: Dave, thank you for the invite. And thank you Dan & Allison & the rest of the team for organizing such a fab event. 🧡

  • In exactly 14 days, I'll be speaking on the *same stage* as Seth Godin... RIGHT AFTER his keynote... Is this what modern philosophers call a "full-circle moment?" Because: - "Purple Cow" was the very first marketing book I've ever read (in English) - Reading his daily blog made me fall in love with the craft - Seth is the reason I started my own podcast, Everyone Hates Marketers, a decade ago (back when my dad didn't even know what it was) because he was bullish on the format - He's also the reason why it took off... because he was guest #10 (or so). Cue my juvenile face. - This interview changed my career; it gave me a bit of credibility, but, more importantly, it gave me the confidence to double down on what I was good at. And look, he may not be a GTM expert who can name the 782 CRMs that connect natively with Canva, but he's my marketing hero because he stands for something... because he's been showing up, time and time and time and time and time again for decades. In a world that seems to spin faster by the day, it's good to have a Seth Godin who stands still, unbothered by the ebbs and flows of the markets. Thank you to Dave Gerhardt and all the crew at Exit Five for the opportunity. 🧡 P.S. That Seth Godin interview was recorded on Skype (remember Skype?), a $30 microphone, and my MacBook camera. There's no editing whatsoever. Yet, it's been seen by nearly half a million people, and it's impacted a few, too.

  • I’ve been running a consulting business for more than 10 years. Hundreds of clients… from shampoo manufacturers, to indie jewelry makers, to billion-plus SaaS and software behemoths. 20+ countries for work. A book read by thousands. None of that is my proudest achievement. My proudest achievement is being able to drop everything at a moment’s notice, and, for example, take my daughter and a couple of her friends to a playground 20 minutes from my house, and spend literally hours there… without worrying or checking emails (or Slack…) It’s the bond me and my wife built with her. We’ve visited every playground/public park/entertainment center known to mankind. We’ve had the time to learn her sassy personality, her friends, what she likes, what she can’t stand. And we share a passion… hunting… for wild Gruffalos, specifically. Could I have stacked a couple more zeros in the bank by obsessing twice, three times as hard? Probably… but honestly I don’t care. That freedom is worth everything. Nothing touches it. I hope this inspires you a bit to seek what is truly worth it. Life is short. Live it your way… not to somebody else’s definition of success. 🧡🧡
