I’ve placed two #QA engineers with the clients whom I originally met in person at #TheTestTribe meetups within the last 12 months. I really love this community. For me as a #recruiter, it’s not just about scrolling through profiles online - it’s about meeting great people in real life, hearing their stories, and staying in touch. The next #meetup is happening next Wednesday, August 26: Topic: "They Define It, We Defend It" (this time with Ian Percival) 📅 When: Wednesday, August 26 | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM 📍 Where: Calgary Central Library If you’re in #QA or software #testing, definitely come by to learn something new and hang out. I’ll be there, so if you're coming, come say hi - would love to connect and chat about what's happening in the market! The registration link is in the comments below. Who else is going? Let me know! 👇
Just by looking at whether a candidate names their file a #CV or a #Resume, I can instantly tell which part of the world they’re coming from. If it says "#CV", it’s almost always Europe - especially Central and Eastern Europe. In Canada and the US? It’s always a "#Resume". I decided to look into why this distinction exists, and here is a little historical context for you: 1. #NorthAmerica (#Canada & #US) Here, they are two completely different documents: - #Resume (from French, meaning "summary") - This is your main job search tool. A targeted, concise 1-2 page document focused purely on relevant experience, skills, and achievements for a specific role. - #CV (Curriculum Vitae - Latin for "course of life") - A detailed, multi-page record of your entire academic and professional path. In Canada, a CV is used strictly in academia, scientific research, and medicine to list publications, grants, and teaching history. If you're applying for corporate or tech jobs here in Canada, you need a #Resume, not a CV. 2. #Europe & #UK In Europe, the word "Resume" is rarely used. Everyone defaults to calling it a CV. But in reality, a modern European CV is structured just like a North American resume - a quick 1–2 page snapshot. The term stayed Latin because of British English traditions, even though the format adapted to modern hiring long ago. TO SUM IT UP: In North America, a Resume is your targeted marketing document, while a CV is for researchers and doctors. In Europe, people just call every resume a CV. Is this topic interesting to you? Let me know in the comments if you’d like me to share whether a resume in North America can actually be longer than 1 page (oh, there are so many biases around this topic)!
