From first cold call → first €1M ARR | GTM & Sales @ Zell
I studied business and sales for 5 years before making my first cold call. 24-year-old Moroccan 🇲🇦 living in Berlin, currently learning B2B SaaS sales in public. I've spent the last few years in marketing, GTM, and startup environments across 4 countries 🇩🇪🇮🇹🇫🇷🇺🇸 One thing kept showing up everywhere: the hardest part of any business is getting someone who's never heard of you to actually want what you've built. So I stopped reading about sales and started doing it. From scratch. Today I'm building GTM and outbound at Zell alongside 2 founders who set out to solve a problem they experienced firsthand: how do you actually get better at sales? I'm documenting the whole thing in public: first cold call → first €1M ARR. If you're learning sales, building something, or figuring things out as you go, you're in the right place. And if you’re a sales leader looking for a more consistent performance, we should most definitely talk!

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐨 🇲🇦 𝐯𝐬 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐥 🇧🇷 𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐁2𝐁 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 Ayoub Bouaddi is 18. Mohamed Ouahbi gave him a shot against Brazil. Alberto gave me a shot in sales with exactly 0 cold-calling experience. Two weeks later, I booked my first meeting :) Sometimes talent isn't waiting for another certification, degree, or year of experience. Sometimes it's just waiting for someone to pass the ball. Give juniors a chance!! (aaand give your reps a better one with Zell ;)
3 months ago, I joined Zell for my first real experience in B2B tech sales as a founding BDR. I had studied sales for 2 years and business for 5, but I had never actually picked up the phone and cold-called someone. Fast forward three months and there were a lot of firsts: first cold calls, first booked meetings, first demos, first proper outbound experiments, first startup retreat, and probably more rejection than in the previous 24 years combined 😂 But what I’ll remember most are the little moments in between: walks in the park after lunch, Fabrizio’s pasta, volleyball matches and my slight anger issues, Uno nights, cold calling from our tiny office, and seeing ideas turn into actual features ridiculously fast. I also got to work with people I learned a lot from. Alberto gave me a chance despite 0 cold outbound experience and a level of trust and ownership I really appreciated. Moritz is one of the most curious and supportive people I’ve worked with. Fabrizio is basically the Zell genie 🧞: you mention an idea, and somehow it’s live shortly after. A big thank you as well to Gabriele and Benjamin for the guidance, conversations and support along the way. Professionally, I leave with a much better understanding of what sales actually feels like beyond the classroom. I learned to stay curious longer, to qualify instead of trying to convince everyone, to separate persistence from simply chasing people, and most importantly, that you learn sales by actually doing sales. These three months weren’t perfectly linear either. I dealt with some health issues along the way and eventually decided not to continue beyond my internship so I could properly recover, reflect on my first SDR experience and think about what I want my next chapter to look like. I’m very grateful for how supportive the team was throughout that. So that’s a wrap on my Zell chapter: short, intense, sometimes chaotic, but one I’m really glad I had. 💙 As I step out, Zell is looking for its Founding Sales Lead to take the commercial journey forward. If you like early-stage environments, want real ownership and enjoy building alongside founders, they’re worth talking to.
I’ve officially done my first 300 dials and 20 actual conversations. I used to hear all the time that sales is about asking the right questions. I remember thinking: “How hard can it be?” Turns out it’s really fucking hard. That’s literally the whole job. Can’t believe I now talk for a living 😄
