before you say yes to a development estimate, ask: “what could make this estimate change?” the answer will tell you a lot more than the number itself. a good developer should be able to point out the assumptions, unknowns, dependencies and parts of the project that could take longer than expected. if they say “nothing” or give you a vague answer, that’s a red flag. good estimates aren’t about pretending everything is predictable, they’re about knowing where the uncertainty is.

Early alignment feels slow. Late correction feels painful. One of these is optional.

If scaling breaks the product, the issue usually started long before scale arrived. Growth exposes, it doesn’t create.

Teams that move fastest long-term are often the ones that slow down at the beginning. Certainty compounds.
