Promotion is decided long before the title changes. Most SDRs wait for a manager to notice them. That is the slow route. What waiting looks like vs. what ownership looks like: - Waiting for leads to be handed to you vs. building your own account list and knowing why each name is on it - Sending the weekly pipeline update vs. spotting the stalled deal before your manager does - Ending a call with "let me know" vs. booking the next step before you hang up - Asking for feedback once a quarter vs. asking after every lost deal The behaviors that get noticed: 1. Own one problem nobody else wants. Pick a messy segment, a broken sequence, or a stuck handoff and fix it. 2. Write down what works. A short win note in the team channel builds more visibility than another good week. 3. Learn the next role's job. Sit in on an AE's discovery call and write down the questions they asked that you didn't. 4. Multi-thread every opportunity. A deal with one contact is a risk your manager will spot before you do. Promotions go to the SDR who already works like an AE. → Start doing the job you want before anyone asks you to. Which habit do you think gets SDRs promoted faster than their numbers do? I got promoted to AE and nobody handed me this list. Here is what I wish someone had told me before day one. 1. The number is yours now. Pipeline stops being someone else's problem. 2. The meeting you used to hand off is now yours to run, from discovery to close. 3. A great day can leave nothing visible on the board, because deals take weeks. 4. Nobody follows up for you. Every next step has your name on it. 5. Prospecting never stops. You fill the pipeline while you work your deals. 6. One contact on a deal is a risk. Multi-threading starts earlier than you think. 7. Cold call skills still matter. They just show up in discovery now. 8. Prep time does not protect itself. You block it or it disappears. 9. Speed was the SDR metric. Depth is the AE metric. 10. Call counts gave you a daily score. AE work has none, so you build your own. The title changed in a day. The habits are still catching up. → New title, same habit of learning in public. Tell me in the comments which one caught you off guard when you changed roles?? I'm Elliott Azoulay, newly promoted account executive at Deel. Monday is not a fresh start. It is just the next chance to do the work. The reps who win the week are not the ones who feel fired up at 9am. They are the ones who already know their first three moves before the laptop opens. Here is what that looks like for me. 1. Open the account you are most worried about first. 2. Write down the one thing that would move it forward this week. 3. Book the next step before the week gets busy. 4. Finish the day by updating the notes so tomorrow starts clean. Motivation fades by Wednesday. Habits do not. Pick one account today and treat it like it is yours. Drop your first move for the week in the comments.
