About Jonathan Molina

AE @ Deel

Hi there 👋 Accidental switch to sales - turned out to be the best move I’ve ever made. I started at the bottom as an Associate SDR, coming from a background in international relations and public sector work. What I found in sales? Full ownership, constant learning, and space to channel my overachiever mindset without being held back. Now an AE at Deel, I focus on new business and thrive in the discovery stage, where the real conversations happen. I share honest takes on sales, cold calling, and navigating bold career pivots. Follow me if you're into that.

  • Five years ago I left diplomacy. To start over as SDR. Bottom of the ladder. My wife was the one who told me to go. She had watched me be unhappy for years. She saw it before I was willing to say it out loud. And when I finally did, she didn't ask about the title or the salary or how long it would take to get back to where I'd been. She said: "You do great at whatever you set your heart to. If this is what makes you vibrate, you'll do amazing." 2 years as an SDR, then AE, then Mid-Market.  Late nights, quiet months, stretches where nothing closed and I wondered if I'd made a mistake. She never once asked me to reconsider. Behind most of what looks like a career move,  there's someone standing off to the side who absorbed the risk of it. She trusted me more than I trusted myself.  That's the only reason any of this happened. Happy 7 years, my love. You and the boys are the fire. ח״י אלול

  • Elliott and I fought to get paired 9 months ago. He was an SDR. I was his AE. Today we're both AEs. He pushed for the pairing because he knew I've always been an SDR advocate. I pushed for it because I could see how good he was on the phone. Then day one I asked him what he wanted. "To be promoted to AE." Same answer I get every time. So that became my goal too. And my goal, real opportunities, not just meetings, became his. Neither of us was doing the other a favor. We both needed the other one to win. That's the whole thing. The way I know if a pairing worked is simple. Did he get promoted or not? I get paired with my third SDR soon. Same question on day one. Save this if you're an AE about to get paired with a new SDR.

  • "I only accepted because Nate was relentless." My SDR smiled. I didn't. Two minutes later the prospect said it again: "Like I already told Nate, I'm not the right person for this. Send me an email and I'll pass it to my colleague." We never heard from him. Or from the colleague. That's what a meeting booked under pressure gets you. A slot in the calendar and a closed door behind it. Nate wasn't doing anything wrong by his own scoreboard. He had a quota breathing down his neck and a validated meeting was the only thing that made it stop. So he double dialed. Then triple dialed. As if the building is on fire. And he got the meeting booked. But as an AE, I don't want meetings. I want to close deals. You don't get a champion out of someone who took the call to make you stop. If you feel the urgency, at least space it out. Once in the morning, once in the afternoon. And if you've run out of people to call, that's a data problem. We use FullEnrich, so there's always another number. Reward SDRs for the long game. Otherwise they play to their KPIs, and their KPIs turn them into spammers.
